Seacombe Ferry just before instal of sewers

Apparently the tunnelling machine was placed in its shaft at Seacombe and sent off on its merry way northward under the promenade - however after a few metres it hit the old buried sandstone return wall just north of the ferry, from before the promenade was built, and had to be dug out.
