Ignore the Victoria road bit. Borough road in Seacombe used to be called Victoria road too. Changed it to avoid confusion. It is Seacombe by the way. You can see the Irvine theatre on the right further up the road.

Yes, changed its name in 1918. Street sign still shows 'Victoria Road' under the modern name.

A.k.a the bingo!
i am sure there is still a 'victoria rd' sign high up and above the 'bathroom shop' that used to be a thriving butchers. Corner of Church Road/ Borough Road.

Hubs nan died last year (rip) aged 83 years. She referred to this whole area as "The Village".
By looking at old pics, i understand why, now?
i believe the shops extended past the Five Bars and The Leasowe Pubs, spilling out onto Desmene St and Birkenhead Road.
Posted By: RUDEBOX Re: Old Seacombe - 28th Dec 2010 10:56pm
The view coming into Seacombe from the Dock Rd or the Bridges always reminds me of "Guest House Paradiso"!!

Anyone got any idea where the scout parade picture was taken?
Posted By: john1788 Re: Old Seacombe - 29th Dec 2010 1:52pm
is it dock rd / new street.
Posted By: Bezzymate Re: Old Seacombe - 29th Dec 2010 2:01pm
That's what I was told when I bought the pic'.
If you take a closer look you cah see that it does say New St on the corner of the road.
Posted By: john1788 Re: Old Seacombe - 29th Dec 2010 2:08pm

Posted By: Bezzymate Re: Old Seacombe - 29th Dec 2010 2:10pm

Posted By: sparky Re: Old Seacombe - 29th Dec 2010 2:50pm
I THINK IT IS BIRKENHEAD ROAD LEADING TO SEACOMBE FERRY
Posted By: Helles Re: Old Seacombe - 29th Dec 2010 6:40pm

Sorry that the pic is so small,I had to reduce it to 200 before Wiki would accept.

wasn't that Mr Rose's shop a tall old guy who wore a trilby and had a bit of a limp. He used to have his money pinned up in his inside pocket..cos a lowlife robbed him once...don't think he had a car I used to see him walking everywhere
Posted By: Bezzymate Re: Old Seacombe - 29th May 2011 4:42pm
I only remember it as Jim's but ,you have jogged my memory that he wore a hat. I lived in Peter St,the next road up.
Posted By: torryman Re: Old Seacombe - 29th May 2011 6:47pm
Just remembered it wasn't so much a limp but he would slap his right foot down as he walked ...very distinctive ..I remember his surname because I worked in a cash and carry store on Brighton Street (now Ryan's plumbers merchants)so I knew him as Mr Rose...he was a nice man...today's kids would have given him a dogs life and probably rob him blind.

Posted By: Stegga Re: Old Seacombe - 2nd Jun 2011 1:38pm
The corner of Church Crescent and St Pauls Road, Seacombe.

Posted By: Helles Re: Old Seacombe - 2nd Jun 2011 3:04pm

"arrrrr laaaa, dontttt bee likee daaa kidda, we canntehhh elp it laa, ya get me?"
