Not only has the tree grown, the cemetery has as well. One thing that saddened my family for many years was, no known grave for my uncle who was killed in WW1

Like you bezzy, my uncle was wounded in WW1. He was shot at West Hoek Ridge and brought back to Bristol Military Hospital where he died 28 days later. From what I've found, his wife was with him when he died, which is some consolation. He was brought back home and buried in a CWGC grave in Rake Lane cemetery. As a sad ps his only son died in WW2 when he was being transported in an Italian P.O.W. ship which was torpedoed by a British submarine (lots of conspiracy theories about that event!). Like Bert's family, it was a matter of great sadness that there was no grave to visit.

I had a great uncle who apparently died at El Alamein. Not sure where he is buried. frown Have tried finding a record of it but didn't get very far. I should probably ask my 93 year old nan before she exits.

CWGC site should tell you where he is buried unless they never found a body. Usually tell you where they are commemorated even if there is no known grave. It has a search facility and is easy to use.
