Happened to my daughter quite a few years back. I went to every house in the street until I found someone with CCTV. They had film of the car that did the damage although you couldn't see it hit, just the crash on audio and the offender reversing out in a hurry (cul de sac). We could see the make of car, the fact that it was white and had a boy racer spoiler on it. Presented tape to police who said fantastic quality but heard nowt else.

Kept our eyes open and eventually spotted the car still with a red stripe from my daughters car on it. Took number informed police who did nothing. Wrote to Chief Constable and demanded to know why no action. Policeman visited and said what do you expect us to do? I said at least question the bloke. Never heard anything until I again queried it and the police told me he had admitted it and was done for careless driving and failing to report. Hefty fine and lots of points. Thanks for telling us officer!!! Was he insured, well yes he was! Well would you care to pass on the details so my daughter can claim and get her money back that she has had to spend. Oh okay.

We eventually got the details. Don't expect the police to do much unless you push them at the highest level.

Let me know if you have any luck with the CCTV. With an impact so severe there must be significant damage to the other drivers car.

If you send me a private message i may be able to advice more

It's a shame that the police were uninterested in these cases. It wasn't like that years ago...you made a complaint and the police got on with it, because that's their job. You can bet your bottom dollar that if it was one of them who had sustained an injury or damage to one of their cars - all of the stops would be pulled out to trace the culprits. No wonder people have lost faith in them when you hear stories like yours.

Strangely enough there was another similar incident on Monday. A white van had gone into the side of a car by the medical centre. But the police were in attendance.
