One firm, Falon and Pointer, a claims management firm based in Swansea, is being a particular nuisance about this. Apparently the Telephone Preference Service will only pursue 'live' unsolicited calls, not pre-recorded ones. I've emailed Falcon and Pointer ([email protected]) and let them know what I think in no uncertain terms, but I don't know what to do next. Are there any other avenues to explore to stop these nuisance calls? Any ideas?

I'm sure this can fall under Harassment.

Keep a log you never know when your going to need it.

You need to complain to the Information Commissioners Office. From the TPS website:

Quote
Telephone Preference Service (TPS) will help reduce receipt of live unsolicited direct marketing calls but will not stop pre- recorded calls.
Organisations that use recorded phone message to try and sell or promote their products or services have to comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. These say that marketers who leave recorded phone messages must obtain prior consent from the subscriber before they can make such a call.
Where a subscriber receives a recorded phone message they haven't agreed to there may have been a breach of the regulations. If you are receiving recorded messages and have not given prior permission and can identify the organisation leaving the message, you can complain directly to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), who are the body responsible for enforcing the above regulation. Their details are:
The Information Commissioners Office
Tel: 03031231113

Edited because the quoted link doesn't work - try https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/nuisance-calls/

Right...we were being pestered by these calls at all hours of the day. Many were "caller withheld" nuisances. I even had one call me after midnight. So, about 3 weeks ago I spent the best £39 I have ever spent in ages and bought us a BT 8500 . You must have "caller display" to get the best out of it. You can buy them from Argos, I got ours from BT which took a few days for delivery.
Since setting it up , calls from the Swansea people are blocked as are all International/ caller witheld numbers/ anybody who is not prepared to state who they are, etc.
Genuine callers will state who they are. Nuisances hang up once they are asked to state who they are. You won't know that they are ringing you when that is happening. Only family and friends+ any outside agency whom we consider are essential numbers, such as our GP for instance, are stored in the phone. We accept their calls instantly.
It's amazing going through the day and not having to hear these nuisances ringing us all the time. I usually check the caller list before going to bed which shows the list of all incoming calls+ those that have been blocked.
Now, I appreciate that many people consider it an inconvenience to have to pay for a new phone + many don't like paying for "caller display," but for a couple of quid extra a month, I personally consider it's money well spent.
Google BT 8500. There's loads of information on there to read about the phone.I promise if you buy one, you will get peace at last.
One last thing, don't worry if you are a technophobe; this piece of kit is so easy to set up. Even the owner's manual is easy to follow. Good luck, whatever you intend to do.
On talktalk you can block last number, free service I think though you have to register a PIN.
I have caller display and will not answer unless I recognise the number. If someone really wants me they'll either leave a voice mail or call my mobile. Over the years my nuisance calls have stopped completely.
Good ideas there, folks - will follow them up. My phone is quite new, sadly, so I won't change it for caller display at this stage unless things get bad, but will check on the talktalk blocking service, and the Information Commissioner's Office. Many thanks.

I unplug my house phone now as fed up of automated calls coming through
All I get is surveys for stuff I'm not interested in,say no to it all then get calls from these companies.I don't answer the phone & just let it ring or unplug it.If it's school, family or friends they ring my mobile.
