Old tv on the blink so bought one of these new fangled LED curved screen blah, blah, blah, machines. Set up all ok except for the DVD player. New Tv so no SCART sockets, fair enough. HDMI reads up as being all singing all dancing except that I can't get a signal through it. Exchanged lead with one I knew worked and both are ok. Set up the Source setting ok but still getting no signal through to the screen. The DVD is a Silverlight multi format one and as far as I can make out the HDMI is the only cable that needs to be in place, I understand signal path ok due to a previous life but I think I'm missing a trick here somewhere. Can't get any menu on the screen from the DVD player because there's "no signal". Any ideas out there please????

Bandy Have you tried toggling through the channels with a dvd playing?. The tv might have a dedicated channel for dvd playback.

Throw the crappy DVDs player away and buy a new one, they only cost buttons.

You bought a new TV so go the full road and buy a blu ray player.

Ohh yerrrr!

Dusty, done the toggling and gone thru the setup ok. Got the freeview setup working ok as well as the btvision so good there. Just thought the HDMI would crack it, as per the set diagrams. Looks like I might have to go the YPbPr route and get some leads.
Ste, one mans buttons is another mans couple of pints. It's a multi format machine anyway so I WILL get it going eventually. Don't need blu ray, don't even use it in the car though it's fitted. Technology starting to leave me cold. It's a hard loif.

They don't have a channel specifically for playback.

Yes things are a little more complicated these days bandy.

Here's my amplifier for example...

That's a doddle Ste. Used to work with patch panels and signal inputs and outputs and intermediate freqs and all kinds of gear but I'm bushed now. Probably get frustrated when things don't do what I expect after just following the instructions. I'll get there if it kills me.

How did you get on?
Posted By: Mark Re: LED Tv Prob - 26th Sep 2015 9:04pm
Hdmi cables need to be version 1.3
Verion 1.1 dont work.
If you look close at the cable it can be printed on.
Version 1.3 has been out for years now, but the first generation 1.1 is probably compatible.

As its a New Smart Tv the resolution could be too high for a old dvd player. (if the dvd player is old).

You normally have a few Hdmi slots, try those also incase an input is faulty.

Hope that helps.

HDMI bought in the package as an extra, it's 1.3. Interchanged with one already in use just in case and it's the correct one. Pretty new up to date DVD player, checked the docs. Tried the other HDMI slots too. I'll get there in the end one way or t'other. It's just that I've run out of ideas for now. Thanks for the assists anyway fellahs. Onwards and Upwards.

Double check spec using the using the long model number on the back of the DVD player, it may not have HDMI capability even though it has the connector.

I've had a couple of LG DVD players which had faulty HDMI outputs...I think you can get a scart to HDMI adaptor...may be worth a try...unless you know the HDMI o/p is OK

Think I've found the prob. Player LCD compatible but not LED, technology moving too fast for the likes of me. I'll have to bite the bullet and get a blu ray thingy, like diggindeeper said they're cheap enough. I'd still rather have a couple of pints with the dosh though. It's a hard loif.

Make sure the Blue Ray is backwards compatible with Dvd's which most are.

I can only imagine its the Resolution.

LCD and LED is a technology and not a reason not to work.
What you need to check is the Max Resolution on the DVD player.
And the Min Resolution on the TV that's where i suspect the issue is.

Bit the bullet and bought a Bluray/DVD player, I'll use the other one in the other room with the CRT tele. Compatibility is what it's all about by the looks of it, old technology doesn't mix with new, bummer. Cheers anyway, it's good to talk.

Well, got the gear. Curved TV, 4K ready, whatever that is. Got the Blu Ray DVD player, got it installed too. Can I understand the techno jargon in the user manual? Not a scoobies. I've got more compatability now than I've ever had in my life. Bring back MSDOS5 I say.
