Hi
I have an Toshiba Satellite L300D Laptop. It looks like the fan has stoped working and gets hot quickly. How much would it cost to get fixed, and also a reliable place to take it. Or would it be cheaper to buy another laptop.

It is not a big job ,it's just tricky as you have to take your laptop apart but should imagine the fan is only cheap

Get a vacuum cleaner and find where the fan is and use the vacuum cleaner hose with smallest tool, maybe the curtains one, it should help, no guarantee but you never know, remember if you suck up bits like the memory and the cpu and any wires it's your fault laugh

Not a good idea to go poking around ciruit boards with a vacuum cleaner. Static discharge can fry your motherboard. Use compressed air from a can if you're doing it yourself. Or take it to Akita Consoles in Poulton road Wallasey. He's very reasonable.

The fan has a ventilation grid in the case, you don't have to remove anything, put the suction to the vents in the case and see if that clears the problem, the fan usually stops because of the muck it collects , DO NOT open the case up yourself unless you know what your doing as laptop cases are a jigsaw puzzle on the way they have been put together and you can end up with bits when you put them back, if the Doc is about take it to him or your usual repairer.
