I have a fairly old PC flat screen monitor which has just developed a vertical line down the whole screen about two centimetres wide. Its a cream colour and flickers so although I can use the screen, it's extremely irritating and giving me a headache.
Not sure why it has appeared and I've checked all the connections to make sure they are tight.
Any suggestions, gratefully received.
To determine if the fault is the monitor or the graphics card on your pc you need to plug the monitor into another pc Or get another monitor and plug that into yours.
Working out where the problem is the first step.
A New graphics card are pretty cheap and can be added to your existing computer. Graphics cards are no more than £15 for basic stuff.
A New monitor can be £80
So its worth doing the leg work.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try and borrow a friend's monitor and see if that changes the situation.
Also, you may want to check that you haven't damaged/bent a pin in the monitor's video cable - check both ends of the cable
As this can also be a common problem, when plugging it in to the pc or monitor
If you are stuck for a monitor I have one here that you can have. I have not used it for ages but it was working fine.
Thanks rossie, I'll PM you.
