Akamai,, i keep getting messages to download the new version . can anyone tell me whether its something i need ..

If i am not mistaken Akamai is a piece of software used for BBC Iplayer but its only for the desktop version. If you hardly use the BBC Iplayer desktop application then you can delete this safely and continue using the online version. But if you download the content to your computer then you will need to keep as it uses Akamai to download updates so its safe and you can update it.
