Should be easy enough.

Its to do with showing notifications or not.
You have not said which operating system your using on your laptop.

With the O/S then we can target the Advice.

Try clicking on the show hidden icons button on taskbar then click on customize. Go to volume icon & select show icon & notifications.

click the start button
you should get the search box coming up.

type in there

volume

and you may get the result of "Show Hide Volume (speaker) in task bar.

It does that on widows 7 vista may show other results.

If you cant get it drop me a pm and i can sort it for you.

Right click on task bar

Click on properties
then click on notifacation area tab
click on customize
either click on default settings, or find the one that says volume, and set it to always show

Right Click Task bar Properties

Show in Task bar
the Tick Box for Volume and the Words "Volume" are Greyed out so its not possible to toggle at all. There is no problem with the drivers in the Device Manager List.

Every thing was ok until just the other day.

To me it seems like a program has taken control of this but which one, its probably going to be easier to find a registry option.
