Ok so if i say the letters DNS most people will probably stop reading so i will put this in to plain old english. the internet works using numbers and every website has its own number. like a house number. when you type a web site address your computer looks in a phone book finds (say wikiwirral) and finds out what number it lives at on the internet.

This service is called DNS and there are many of them, like yell, Thompson and the BT phonebook. the chances are the one that you use (your service provider (BT, Sky or Virgin) isn't the fastest one for you to use.

Download and install a program called namebench (its a free opensource utility held on google servers) this will take about 5 mins and it will run through searching all the DNS servers and finding out which one is the quickest for you and it will tell you by how much.

I just ran mine and i have improved my lookup speed by 75%. not a bad increase if i say so myself.

Good luck.
Check the history of the dns servers you're using as well, would be a pity to advise people to switch dns only for them to fall victim to dns poisoning or injection or whatever..

Was one in the news recently I think that had something like 70k people (mostly from the us) lose banking details via dns poisoning.
Yes, if you dont recognise the DNS then dont use it. I am with Virgin and the one that was fastest for me was the BT8 DNS server. being BT I assume i am safe! Google server (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) are also good. with a 64% speed increase.
errr.. what do you do once you get your results , i'm with VM, but this tells me VMGB is 307% faster than my current primary server???
does this sound dodgy , if not , how do i apply this DNS??
Log on to your router and Pop the new DNS ip details in. Vm is virgin media, not dodgy. They will have more than 1 DNS probably about 50!!
