Ok. I got a mobe-obviously!!
However, i still use my old mobe number (my old 'brick' number, its a k800i) as a number for the comps i enter. I have had no credit on this phone for ages-more than 6 months.
Some fecker has rang plusone (my husband)several times, ranting at why he had rang them? And the caller i.d showed up as my old Brick phone??? (number). Wtf!

I imagine your number has been recycled and passed to someone else since you've not been using it?

You've had the answer. Because you haven't used the phone for so long, the number's been recycled and assigned to a new SIM, which someone else is now using.

Ring your old mobile number and see who answers?

How did you get on RB? There is probably a logical answer to all this. I had a similar problem with Vodafone because I did not use my old mobile.

Hope you used more than your phone number as an I.D. for the comps', otherwise someone else may be enjoying the fruits of your labours.

If you don't use your mobile/sim card for a period of time the provider will cut the number off.

Obviously with so many numbers being issued, and some sims used only for a very short period, numbers can be very quickly used up, so this is needed.

The time limits can be quite short, so be aware of this.

With some companies if you don't use your phone for 3months (incoming or outgoing) it will be cut off, others allow you 6m but most will disconnect after 12m unless you notify them that you want to keep the number and are out of the country/in hospital etc etc

The re-issuing of numbers is a tricky one, because no law or regulation actually covers it. Some companies just put the number straight back "into the pot" and it can be back out again in as little as 30days, others add it to the end of the list and it can take several months (or never at all) to be back in circulation.

New numbers are issued all the time, so this does happen quite often, especially with "gold" or easy to remember numbers as these can be requested and searched for.

Sometimes in situations like this you can ask the person who has been issued the number to let you have it back, if they've only had it a short time and are getting a lot of calls for the previous user this can be beneficial to both of you as these calls can continue for years. (I have a group of "similar" numbers that are used for work, one of my [ex]employees used his phone to call several "debt management" firms, and even now almost 3 years later we still get calls from them for him, for the first year we had to have the phone turned off as that was all we got all day long. Strangely they never disconnect Contract Numbers if you don't use them, as long as you keep paying the bill).
