Sony is to fight back against the pirates by issuing a PS3 firmware patch that will detect and lock out users of the PSJailbreak dongle. The source of this news? The PSJailbreakers themselves.

You know that bit in Goodfellas where Ray Liotta goes all paranoid and starts seeing FBI helicopters wherever he goes? That’s basically what it is like over at the PSJailbreaker’s house right now. The developers of the piracy-enabling USB dongle are convinced that Sony are planning to disable their invention with a firmware patch and have sent out an email warning customers to be on high alert

Early adopters of the PSJailbreak device received the following message from their supplier, “Just a friendly update email and some advice for you over the coming days and weeks.

“While PS Jailbreak team have told us it should be possible to support future firmware versions on the PS3, it’s is not guaranteed, they will need to access any newer firmware’s than 3.41 and if needed release an update for the PS Jailbreak to support the newer firmware’s.

“So we wanted to give you all some advice that if a system update is released for the PS3 in the coming days or before you receive your PS Jailbreak which blocks system updates, we recommend that nobody update their PS3 for the time being. ”

Sony hasn’t issued a statement on the fact that the PSJailbreak even exists as yet, so is this just paranoia or do the jailbreakers have some inside knowledge? While it is nice to see that they take customer service seriously, prospective pirates might want to hold off from parting with their cash until this one is resolved
