...damaged knees and painful tendonitis'

Playing the Nintendo Wii can lead to fractured limbs, damaged knees and painful tendonitis, surgeons have warned.

They also found evidence of head cuts which required stitches caused by flying Wii controls.
Thousands of families are expected to buy the hugely popular games machine this Christmas.

The Wii has been praised for encouraging players to be more active by mimicking the actions involved in many sports.
Earlier this year a study even suggested that the machines could be helpful for preventing weight gain.

But an editorial in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine highlights the range of injuries that players have sustained.
“Gaming is certainly not without its dangers and as the technology has evolved, those dangers seem to become ever more tangible,” warn Thomas Fysh and John Thompson from the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.
“Upon the advent of the Wii, Playstation thumb and Nintendintis were eclipsed by altogether different problems.”
“Wii injury is so common, in fact, that several websites and blogs have been set up in its honour,” they add.
Last year researchers at Leeds Teaching Hospital identified an injury they called "Wii knee".

It followed a warning by osteopaths that they saw an increase in patients with back pain after the Christmas period, a trend they blamed on fathers trying to keep up with their children on the machines.
Reports of other Wii injuries have included painful swelling of tendons triggered by playing tennis on the machine.
However, they still praise the positive aspects that they believe playing the Wii has on health.

“Wii sports might have caused a few brow raising and unusual injuries but is hardly reducing our nation’s youth to helpless decrepitude,” they write.
“While the Wii revolution may fall short of actually reducing the nation’s body mass index, one must concede that gaming is no longer confined to the realm of languid adolescence and that can’t be a bad thing even if we haven’t stumbled upon a new variant of sports medicine.”

A spokesman for Nintendo UK said: "We are committed to the safety and well being of all our customers and users and we always include comprehensive health and safety guidelines with all our products.
"Provided these are followed correctly, anyone should be able to enjoy their Nintendo product safely."

I have to say since we got the wii, me n my dad are on it almost 24/7 (thats when my mum isn't about). I play a lot on the tennis, and to be honest haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. I love playing on it, especially when all the family are together, as I find it very interactive. This also helps with families that children are very much left to their own devices (example of watching telly in bedroom or eating their tea away from family table ) as it brings the family together.

I do want to proceed to the next level and get the wii fit, as I feel it would be a great help to my fitness and my families fitness too.

Therefore all in all, I feel the Ninento Wii is a good invention, and its a good way for people to interact.
The cycling on sports resort feckin kills ya arms!! I played on it non-stop for 3 hours, and my arms were wobbly for a day afterwards!! It was as though they had no strength left in them!!
Is wii fit any good? To burn fat + tone up. Havent got a wii atm but on my hit list, is it more of a jokey pissed thing than a proper workout?

I'm not knocking it by putting this article up - I thought it was hilarious though. I guess people don't think about warming up before suddenly bursting nto action (boxing is a good example).

Our worst scene was where my dad playin tennis, and wacked a cuppa tea n has made a nice drip stain down our white living room walls, haha....
