They aint spending a penny on TV services now and their planned enhancements to the service have been shelved.

The internet service is the only part of their package that will feature any improvements; if you can call it that... Upgrading their speeds is a total fooking con... it looks good to customers and Mr Blogg's can come along and say "ive got 50Mbps and you only have 8Mbps on your connection" etc but in the ral world it dont make any difference.

Even moreso when this Mr Bloggs neglects to mention that Virgin are traffic shaping to slow down p2p use, throttling the speeds of an evening, and havent got a hope in hell of providing 50Mbps to even 10% of their "50Mbps" customer base due to serious lack of IP transit and peering.

The other thing they neglect is the fact is there really that much need for these super-fast services for the average consumer? No, but they will make out there is.

You would have a job running any sort of server on DOCSIS cable to be honest mate... it doesnt really handle uploading very well. They should be considering DOCSIS 3.0 by now, but are still on 1.1 as they won't invest in upgrading the network.

DOCSIS 1.1 was only really built for upto around 30Mbps, 2.0 should have been implemented for the 50 and 100Mbps speeds Virgin are talking about... CWC were planning to upgrade the network back in 2001, we are now in 2008 and it still isnt done.

They keep taking the piss out of BT's copper network, but least their fookin spending £10billion to upgrade it to the 21CN (no I believe they should'nt have gone down this route but that's besides the point) instead of just leaving their network on a completely antiquated format.

What Virgin don't tell their customer's when they are bragging about it being "fibre optic" is that their network was installed in the mid-90's, yes, over 15 years ago... hardly "modern" and "state of the art" in technological terms.

And I found out how they claiming to have the "fastest" broadband in the UK... they are comparing it with only AOL, BT and Tiscali... not mention of o2, Be*, Sky et al!!!

Funny how they have chosen to compare it to the 3 ADSL Max providers, but havent dared to go up against an ADSL2+ provider as yet.

Virgin are way down the league tables in terms of speed because most of their customers are on their 2Mbps service, with an average speed of 3058Kbps/334Kbps. Be* are lightyear's ahead of every other ISP with an average speed of 8630Kbps/857Kbps (funny... their the only ISP to offer an average speed of 8mbps/1MBs) as their basic product is 8Mbps. Sky were in second place with an average speed of 4368Kbps/403Kbps (Be* are double) and companies like Zen and Bulldog were after them.

So if Virgin were truthful to their customers, they are faster then the ADSL Max providers, they can only offer 8mbps... but they are far slower then ADSL2+ providers, even some ADSL Max providers like madasafish are faster then Virgin!

I dont think they will ever Upgrade there net cause they hate spending money lol.. Cause if they where meant to upgrade in 2001 well (CWC) and they havnt why would virgin wanna upgrade it lol if it works... and lie about the speeds etc... I recon the people who have 4mbps wont see much difference imho smile
