http://www.workhouses.org.uktake a look at the site above, tells all about workhouse's around the country, there is also Birkenhead Workhouse and Clatterbridge...........interesting site!!
chris.
That was a v.interesting read. Cheers.
Thanks Chris. I have more than a passing interest in the tranmere workhouse as both my gg grandparents died there. Very sad.
as bad as the workhouses where it has to be realized that the alternative was the gutter
they are knocking it down to turn it into another modern carbuncle i beleive
what a shame, pulling all these old buildings down, they did the same to Clatterbridge, i think all the old buildings should be preserved, surely they can be just updated? why do they have to pull them down?they are part of history, if they have been there for over 100yrs,preserve them!!
chris.
Work starts in the spring. Wonder whether they will keep that plaque+ implement it into the new building?
more importantly they need to be documented and "explored" prior any work done and the time to do so is running out.
Ill make a start next week. Got no sd card yet so can only get about 50 snaps a time
