Looking at the history of Brimstage, there seems to be certain unanswered questions about the Hall. Including the following:

1957

A group from Cambridge University discovered an old, disused well under the floor of a part of the old house in 1957. The well was found to contain a number of human bones, and to this day nobody knows who they belonged to or why they ended up there.

Does anyone have any knowledge why DNA tests could not be done and if they could show a link to anything. Maybe it's time to unwrap the 'old bones' .

Only a number of human bones--sounds macabre--would expect a whole skeleton if someone had fallen in or been thrown in.

1) disposal after amputation---unlikely

2) sacrificial offering to the "Well" God for water supply

3) Cannibals BBQ

4) Body already there when well dug?

5) Whole skeleton down the well but they didn't remove all of them when cleaning

I'm with a group that has been researching the history of Brimstage village and hall. We have searched for proof of the reported 1957 Cambridge University study for several years. There are no more places for us to look - not in Wirral, Liverpool or even Cambridge.

Search the well again. Maybe they left the bones there, rather than disturbing them. They weren't very 'up to the moment' back in the 50's.

Another incident of well skeletons:

Very interesting, mostly very cruel and sad.

As history goes, we find more and more remarkable tales, that also makes us not far removed from some of todays practices and atrocities committed in other countries.

Why down the 'well' one wonders; surely that must have polluted their drinking water ?

Following on to the bodies in wells. This could explain Gibbo's link .

Well Poisoning, a deliberate act from long, long ago.
