Does anyone have any information about the fire which damaged Birkenhead Town Hall tower (leading to rebuilding work) in 1901? If you can direct me to where to find more information, specifically the exact date and what started it, that would be great. Researching a novel set in Hamilton Square and Oxton between 1901 and 1906.

I think the Wirral News ran a full page reprint of the original Birkenhead News article on the 100th anniversary. I can't remember if it was of the fire or the rebopenning, but it's a start.
