Am I a bit stupid or is this gravestone giving the wrong message? If James Birnie died in 1878 aged 64 - how could his daughter Mary Jane have been born in 1816? My calculations make James only two years old when she was born! I found the stone in the carpark up the side of the Priory.

Mary Jane was born in 1846 not 1816

Yes, it does very much look like a one, the "3" in 1863 below it shows the amount of wear and tear.
