Please forgive it not being on the Wirral, but I drive past this on my way to work most days and it intrigues me as to if there is a military connection.
Google Maps - High Legh
Just did a quick google street view and there is a sign on the gate, have you stopped to look?
I haven't no as I don't normally have time on the way to work.
I'm off this week though so might have a gander.
I used to pass it and think the same, I think it may have been a cold war storage or a council storage, I did on occasions see trucks parked up and the doors open ,like you I was "just passing",
Just having a look at the tithe maps and it's labelled as a depot.
Next to it is a Grade Post. Is that something to do with the grade of the hill?
On the 1970's aerial shots you can see the M56 being built.
It looks like a water pumping station, there is a pipeline/utility going underground from this building across the field straight towards the motorway. Across the road there appears to be a an open resevoir of some sorts.
There is no record of anything near there eg pillboxes that would indicate it had a significant WW2 purpose.
There was an WW2 army camp at High Leigh just down the road.
There was an WW2 army camp at High Leigh just down the road.
Interesting, so possibly a military building then.
On the maps it's labelled as a depot.
I can't get the link open you posted is that what it says in there?
Weird place for it, there's hardly anything round there.
Location: THE ELECTRICITY DEPOT, BEECHTREE FARM CLOSE, HIGH LEGH, KNUTSFORD, CHESHIRE, WA16 6NR
Proposal: CHANGE OF USE AND PARTIAL REBUILD OF EXISTING STORAGE DEPOT TO FORM TWO STOREY OFFICE BUILDING
From Phil's link.
Seems clear enough, but that's not to say it wasn't military previously.
I'm really surprised it comes under Macclesfield.
doesn't look that particularly top secret to me, just looks like a municipal office building...
