Hi, can anyone tell me what the name of this shop is in this picture (below).
The business is on the right of the picture, newton H........
Thanks
Possibly Newton Hale Wholesalers????
bit of history here

Sorry, can't help but how things have changed. Even the road has gone!
I dont think that is the right one. That is corporation road newton hale. This shop isnt there anymore.
I know. Do you know what road that is? it looks like a cul-de sac
If you read their 'about us' section they moved in the sixties but dont say where from, but a quick phone call to the co might help you, good luck.
Yeh, you might be right. Thanks I will look into that

From zooming in and the quality isn't the best at 380x, it looks like something 'Place'. Digging Deeper is your man for old maps etc.
I messaged derek about it. Its definately something place though
If there was a pub in the picture then Degs is your man but I would ask DD for street names.
Pretty sure its Newton Hale & Sons who are now in Corporation Road.
think it was a pub next - the electric sign later pic
Deffo the right place Degs,so Garfield Place was the street that is no more.
I guess you mean "next" backwards.
The company was also know as "H Newton Hale & Sons" after Harry Newton.
CLICKY
It actually looks like Campfield Place if you zoom in and clean it up.
Think we've established it's Garfield Place, Yew!
Thats great. I was so confused when I seen it. The picture showed the ventilation shaft further away, and it definately wasnt lord street so it had to be in the middle.
Glad that is sorted now. I will look at newton hale and sons later
Thanks everyone
Yes, this was definitely on Cleveland Street.
On the corner of Lord St in the Unilec building as Croc posted.
I think you are right about the location of the pub Lord Street.
You might be looking at two different buildings now as the building on the corner of Garfield has a footprint that looks like the building in the photograph.
Which pub? I cant see one there.
Bennyboy tried to PM you but your over your limit.
I thought the question was, "what is the name of the shop"?. Which on Derek's zoom of the photograph is Cleveland St Garfield The pub is marked on Derek's map on the next corner, which is Cleveland St Lord. Apologies if I have gone astray I only pop on and off the forum. My interest is, I was born and bred on Cleveland St.
Yeah thats the old newton hale logo!xxx
I wanted to know the name of the shop. I contacted Derek privately about the name of the street because it does not exist there anymore.
By the way, ive deleted my messages now so my inbox is empty...
