Hi does anyone know what was in Tobin street before the 1970's? We know about the woodyard, but not its name or anything else, but what about the shop that sold hot water for the shore?

First pic dated 1909. Second is the Alexander Tea Rooms - could this be where you could get hot water from? Not sure of the date of the third pic - possibly 1940s or 50s - the timber yard (Edmund Taylor's??) is behind the fence on the right

Hi thanks for the picture they are great!! My mum says she used to play up and down the steps in the '40's. do you know what was on the other side of the road, before the present houses were built? Thanks Jess

It was Edmunds Taylor. I used to go there for timber. There was some kind of hardware shop a bit further down Brighton street (next block) that I used to go to for bundling wire. That is wire that was used to bundle firewood. Can't remember the name though.
