Hi,

I'm a new member on this forum and was hoping someone can provide some information for me.

In 1895 a relative of mine was living at 5 Mercia Terrace, West Kirby, Hoylake.

I don't think the street is there anymore. Could someone confirm this and give me an idea where it was ?

Thanks

Adrian Cork

Hi Adrian,

Mercia Terrace was/maybe still situated on BANKS ROAD -near to North Road /Park Road .

Mercia Terrace is on the 1891 Census -RG12/2876 Folio 99.
Cheers
Dolly.

According to the street index in the early Gore's/Kelly's Directories Mercia Terrace was in or off The Crescent in West Kirby. As contemporary maps don't show any houses off The Crescent that could possibly be Mercia Terrace, I can only suggest that it was the name of one of the blocks of properties that comprise The Crescent itself. Possibly your relative was living in accommodation above one of the shops there.
