i remember watching a football match in the middle of the 1950s. i think it was birkenhead schoolboys against a german team, the germans had a player with one arm. does anybody remember this game.
Not heard of that one but in the early sixties an American soccer (hate that word) team used New Brighton's ground to train and play on. That was the first time we had seen strange white and black footballs with hexangonal panels on them. Loads of them got pinched by the local lads and they appealed for them to be returned because they were running out of them. Didn't give mine back! Oops!
im not sure but i think the game was played on the shafts.
Shortly after the war Germany beat England 1-0 and the German captain was heard to say to the England skipper "we have just beat you at your national game" The England capt replied "we've just beat you at yours"
