Near Hamilton Square, (I think the building on the site now is Wirral Borough Council Rates Offices ? ) ...
There were 3 storey Victorian/Georgian dilapidated terraced Houses....like something out of Oliver Twist. They where there in the late 1950's ?
Did Wirral Borough take photographs before they demolished them ? What was the area/or streets called ?

My Grandad lived in a three storey house on Price street from 1932 to around late 1940s. All I know is it was somewhere between where the car park is now for Conway Park station and Hamilton Square...(but on the other side of Price Street to the car park)... Would be interesting to find out where or see pics

You might be right,it could be top end of Price Street...(My fault, for not looking at a map beforehand !)
I know, that then, (looking at Hamilton Square & Town Hall head on) it was to the left..and a bit back.
( I am sure, (visited about 25 years ago ? ) on t'other side of the same Street.. only 30/50 yards down? ..was a newish Dole/Unemployment Office..and still there ?

Thanks for your message.
I only discovered this site today !

I think the pics below show the houses you're talking about. The first two show the Georgian/early Victorian terrace, 4-28 Cleveland Street, that stood alongside the old Rates Office (aka Treasury Building) that was built on the site of the old Congregational Chapel on the corner of Argyle Street. According to early directories the houses were originally called Eccleston Terrace, but this name eventually went out of use.

The other photos show the similar properties on Price Street the derek & polo_phil are referring to, which stood on the opposite side of the road to where Brunswick House & Hordan House are now. Some of these were later demolished to make way for the old Brunswick Court block of flats.

Wow. Its only when you see some of the cars in the photo's that you realize you walked those streets passing those houses and now find you can no longer remember them.

like the pics

They seemed to like building 3 storey high houses in those days

Either they were for wealthy people who also had house servants or were for use by several families
I can remember some in Oliver st next to the Combermere and others next to the Conway Arms in Claughton rd
