This used to be located in the big white warehouse looking building that is located near the junction of New Chester Road and Bedford Road. I can't exactly remember what year it closed down. It still has the signage painted on the roof, possibly from a previous occupier (Palace, or that may have been next door).

palace was the cinema, think it was a cinema before a garage?!
was it was called palace motors before it was the car auctions smile
sure it was a cinema?! hhhmmm..

The building was originally the Palace Cinema, but the name Palace written on the roof was from a later occupant, Palace Motors, who were second hand car dealers and who, for those old enough to rember the adverts, 'made a lovely cup of tea'. They went into liquidation owing Granada TV for the numerous adverts that they didn't pay for.

They had a very bad reputation as i remember it, not surprised one little bit they went out of business owing money. They where the type who gave all second hand car dealers a bad name.
Wow great picture, not somethin' i could imagine being there to be honest.
Funny that it was mentioned yesterday on another forum.

I guess everyone is aware of the new car auctions that have opened up ?
It's on price street
A little google of Birkenhead Car Auctions should throw the address up.
It's every tuesday an thursday from 7 i believe

I went yesterday but there was only 4 cars there due to him being let down by the car owners and only being open since last thursday.
it was called argyle motors when it closed,it was a reliant dealership,i worked there 79 to 80.
Does anybody have any photo's of the large chapel which stood on the land where the car auctions building was later built ?
It was demolished in the mid 60's.

Bob.
I use to go to the palace {picture house} during 1952 to 1955. when it closed and became palace motors the owner ended up doing time, he was one of a group of dodgy car dealers who operated accross Birkenhead.

That was the Rock Ferry Trinity Methodist Church. It had a great Youth Club late '50s / early 60s.

Palace Motors in the mid 60s. The guy that owned it used to get into trouble for displaying all the cars he had for sale by parking them in the surrounding streets, much to the annoyance of the residents...
