American investment company confirms interest in Tranmere Rovers

AN American investment company has confirmed that it is interested in "possible investment in or purchase of" Tranmere Rovers.

Yesterday, the club confirmed that Chicago-based Club-9 Sports had been in talks with chairman Peter Johnson that are at a 'very early stage'.

In a statement on its website today, Club-9 Sports said: "We can confirm that Club-9 Sports has an interest in possible investment in or acquisition of Tranmere Rovers FC.

"As such, we have had preliminary discussions with chairman and majority owner, Peter Johnson.

"However, those discussions remain on-going and are at a stage whereby further comment at this time is not productive."

It is understood the Birkenhead-born businessman Peter Johnson has been seeking a buyer for his 60 per cent stake in the club.

Rovers said yesterday: "We have regular approaches from parties interested in the acquisition of a Football League club.

"However, there has been specific interest from an American company and talks are at a very early stage."

Club-9 Sports advises, invests and operates in the sports, entertainment and media industries.

It is a joint venture between Tobacco Road Capitalists, a sports management and sports media advisory company in North Carolina and Prometheus Capital Partners, a middle market merchant bank in Chicago.

THE WIRRAL GLOBE
It seems the deal is dead as Club 9 changed the terms according to posters on one of Rovers fan site although nothing has been formally announced yet. I just hope that it is true as many of the fans, including me, wanted nothing to do with Club 9 Sports.
