Hodgson's future in doubt
Liverpool unimpressed with recent results

Roy Hodgson's future as Liverpool manager remains in the balance with the Premier League side 'very discouraged' by recent results.

The Anfield outfit have struggled badly this season following Hodgson's appointment as the replacement for Rafa Benitez in the summer.

Home defeats at the hands of Blackpool and Wolves have seen large sections of the Reds faithful turn on their manager and call for a return of club legend Kenny Dalglish. One fan took further action by spraying 'Hodgson Out' on a wall outside the Melwood training ground.

Wednesday night's miserable 3-1 defeat at Blackburn was the club's fourth successive reverse on the road and left them 12th in the table, only four points above the relegation zone they briefly occupied earlier this season.

A senior Liverpool source has told Sky Sports News HD that the club's owners have yet to decide on Hodgson's future, but that they are 'very discouraged' by recent results.

Scrutiny

New owner John W Henry's New England Sports Ventures, who are now known as Fenway Sports Group, took control at Anfield earlier this season and immediately gave their backing to the former Fulham manager.

But an anticipated upturn in fortunes at the end of the Tom Hicks and George Gillett era has failed to materialise and Hodgson has seen his position come under ever-increasing scrutiny.

The 63-year-old would not discuss his position following the miserable display at Ewood Park, but Reds fans have been having their say on skysports.com with many believing the time has come for a parting of ways.

It now remains to be seen what action Henry takes and if Hodgson's tenure is brought to an abrupt halt after just a few months at the helm.

Business as usual for Hodgson
Reds boss arrives at training on Friday as speculation mounts

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson arrived at the club's training ground as usual on Friday amid growing speculation over his future.

The 63-year-old is under intense pressure at Anfield and Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers did little to boost his cause.

The poor Ewood Park result was thought to be the straw that broke the camel's back, but it seems, for now, he will take charge this weekend.

The Reds tackle arch-rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup third round this weekend and success over the Red Devils could be crucial for Hodgson.

Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have reportedly been looking at their possible options for a managerial change for over a week now.

They had intended to see out the season with Hodgson before reassessing the situation but recent results - defeats to Rovers and Wolves - and the deteriorating relationship with fans and associated falling attendances have apparently prompted a rethink.

Hodgson was scheduled to hold his Friday press conference ahead of the United game, but the club cancelled it less than an hour and 45 minutes before it was scheduled to take place.

But in an attempt to calm speculation about Hodgson's future that the cancellation may have prompted the club stated an interview with the manager, talking about the weekend's game, would be posted on their website and broadcast on Liverpool's in-house television channel.

As a Blue, I couldn't give a $hit about the reds. What does annoy me is that the managers always get sacked from clubs that don't do well.

They should start sacking the players or at least dock their wages. The managers manage but the buck has to stop with the players IMO.

I'd love to be a manager - the players would get a basic salary and a bonus depending on performance. If you want it enough then you will play your socks off! There used to be pride in playing, and your club was everything but these days it's all about the money (unless you're Shrek and then it's all about the pensioner prostitutes).

Like I say, I'm a Blue (have been since the late 70's) so I'm used to being mid or low table (apart from our glory days in the mid 80's), but not once have I called for Moyes to be sacked! He's probably my favourite manager since Howard Kendall.
