Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is rumoured to be considering a surprise exit from Anfield this summer, according to reports.

The Daily Star is claiming a source close to the Reds skipper has revealed that he is eyeing a move abroad with free-spending Real Madrid and Serie A giants AC Milan looking potential destinations if he leaves the Reds.

Gerrard, who is currently sidelined for a fortnight with a hamstring problem, is alleged to be considering his options after Liverpool's tumultuous season has seen manager Rafael Benitez remain defiant in the face of calls for him to be sack.

The Huyton-born midfielder is believed to favour a move to the Spanish capital where he would be reunited with former Reds team mate Xabi Alonso who arrived at the Bernabeu Stadium last summer.

The source said: “Stevie turns 30 at the end of the season and knows time is running out for him if he wants to win more honours.

“The chance to link up with the stars at Real is one that excites him.

“The big fear is that it will take at least a couple of years before Liverpool can build a team able to challenge for the title again, and that there may not even be enough money around for them to do that.

“He loves the club, but he is frustrated at the way things have gone this year.

“But he doesn’t want to play for another side in the Premier League. If he did move, then he would prefer it to be abroad and a club like Real or Milan would be ideal.”

If Steven does leave Liverpool, it will be his wife Alex who is pulling all the strings because theres better clothes shops in Madrid or Milan. She will be able to top up her tan aswell.
Everything was ok with Liverpool last year, its seems that all the rats want to desert a sinking ship.
Its Benitez that has caused these problems. He forced Alonso out, who is one of the best midfielders in the world by openly chasing Gareth fecking Barry at his expense. That is akin to wanting to replace Fernando Torres with me.

What Benitez has achieved has mostly been with Gerard Houllier's squad anyhoos.

IMO a vastly overated boss whose stubborness is going to cost him big time!

withthat

Not forgetting the fact he gets rid of the likes of God and Crouch, and yet keeps ahold of shite like Kuyt and Ngog, and passes off the chance to sign young Mickey on a free transfer, just so his pride doesnt get dented!! Is it any wonder why we do not score goals anymore?? All these draws are a result of not scoring, had we had another decent striker last season, even Robbie Keane had he been given the chance to settle and play games, we could have taken the title, too many draws on our part, were the difference between us and Man Utd.

Don't buy too much into this story anyway, the Daily Star is hardly a reputable source for anything other the likes of Jordan's latest boob job.

Also, it wouldnt be the first time Real have tried to unsettle a potential target player - though maybe that's why Benitez is doing so shit - he is signed up with Real to be their manager next season lol.

sorry mate but as much as i love god, he was well pasted it when he came back to us i was glad to see the back of him in the end. Benitez only got him to win the fans over. yes
Behave yourself mate, he was doing immensely for a player who had been in the wilderness for the previous few seasons, and who was stuck with a bitpart role at Liverpool. Benitez was the problem, not Fowler, you were probably part of the pathetic IRWT brigade until recently, which is why you were too blind to see it.

You can't judge a player when he played so few games, and the majority of appearances made where as a substitute. Your comment about being past it, is a joke, he was only 30/31, your saying once a player hits 30 their career is over, oh shit, lets get rid of Carra and Gerrard quick before anyone realises they are past it!! It's a good job others have the sense to see past the age of 30, otherwise the likes Gary Mac would never have been given a chance to make the dramatic differences between good and great come to frutition.

Players like Fowler, don't suddenly lose their predatory instinct, take a look at Romario, who was still banging 20 - 30 goals a season in upto the age of 40, Fowler, unlike young Mickey, never needed pace to score goals, the only thing that does happen to them as they reach their mid-late 30's, is their brain tends to start reacting faster than their feet. Predatory goalscorers don't even need a particular great deal of stamina, because they need not do anything all match, but give them the ball and it's game over - they are a rare breed, but when they are given a fair chance, their morale and form is at peak (as with all players, they need consistent runs of games to achieve peak form, one of the many factors in Rafa's failiure), they will get you goals without fail.

As an out and out goalscorer, Fowler in his 18 months at Liverpool, with the limited chances he managed to get and given the fact he had spent some seasons previously out of favour and indeed out of shape, was still twice the striker Kuyt will ever be.

As for you being glad to see the back of him... that say's a lot about your accumen as a Liverpool fan!!!!! You are essentially saying that you would rather see Kuyt and the like playing for the club, the like of which, is quite frankly an embarrasment to the club.
