Tom Hicks and George Gillett are to sell two of their North American Teams in a deal worth in the region of £750 million. Which will wipe out LFC debt and give the club money to spend in the Transfer market and new stadium according to talkSport this morning. But it may come too late for this transfer window.

So will this mean

OUT

Jermaine Pennant (Free)

Footballing 'spats' The former Arsenal and Birmingham winger, currently on loan at Portsmouth, will not have his contract renewed after falling out with Benitez, with the manager concerned by his attitude in training.

Andriy Voronin (£2-3 million)
A flop in the Premier League, the Ukrainian has been in sparkling form since joining Hertha Berlin on loan. The Bundesliga remains his most likely destination, and Hertha his preferred move, should the Germans be able to find the cash.

Andrea Dossena (£4 million)

After early struggles at Anfield, Dossena’s two goals in two games suggest he is starting to find his feet, albeit as a left-winger and not a left-back. Benitez may be tempted to cash in, though, if a suitable offer from Italy arrives, with Juventus and Roma interested.

Philipp Degen (£1 million)

The Swiss full-back has featured just twice since his move from Borussia Dortmund after a succession of injuries. Benitez will surely move him on if he can find a buyer willing to take the risk.

Sami Hyypia (Free)

Benitez would be loathe to lose the former club captain, who proved at Old Trafford that he is more than capable of filling the breach when required. But the Finn, whose contract expires at the end of the season, may decide he wants one more year of playing regularly before hanging up his boots.

IN

Glen Johnson (Portsmouth, £18 million)

Liverpool’s most obvious weakness is at right back, where there is no natural cover for Alvaro Arbeloa. Johnson, an England international, would provide a more attacking alternative and is likely to be available as Portsmouth look to ease their financial concerns.

David Wheater (Middlesbrough, £5 million)

Should the ever-reliable Sami Hyypia leave, Benitez is likely to look at the Middlesbrough man as a young, English replacement. The Spaniard knows he has to boost his English contingent to meet UEFA regulations and, should Boro be relegated, Wheater would be an economic option.

Aaron Lennon (Tottenham, £10 million)
Benitez tried to include the wide man as part of the Robbie Keane deal but Harry Redknapp was unwilling to budge. There are suggestions that Liverpool may go back in the summer as Benitez tries to add natural width to a team which struggles to break down compact opponents.

Michael Mancienne (Chelsea, £4 million)

The England under-21 international has struggled to break in to Chelsea’s side and Benitez, on the lookout for English players, would be tempted to bring in a defender equally comfortable at centre back or full back.

David Villa & David Silva (Valencia, £60 million)
With the money from Hick/Gillett sales

Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has been keen to bring in a right-back following the departure of Andre Ooijer to PSV and the return of on-loan Danny Simpson to Manchester United.

Manchester United sign winger Antonio Valencia

Manchester United have signed Ecuadorian International Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic on a four year deal for £16 million.
[Linked Image]
The 23-year-old winger has undergone his medical at Old Trafford and is the first signing for the Premiership Champions since the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo following the star's £80million move to Real Madrid.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be 'delighted' that the transfer has been completed.

Ferguson added: 'Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan. I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team.'

Valencia, who has scored 4 goals for Wigan, said: “Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me.'

'I have enjoyed my time at Wigan, but I am thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours in club football here.'

'Playing in front of 76,000 fans alongside players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs will be an amazing experience. I can’t wait to get started.'

Wigan Athletic will receive a club record fee for Antonio Valencia.

Latics Manager Roberto Martinez said he was 'disappointed,' but accepted that the transfer had become 'almost an inevitability.'

Martinez added: 'I was not here when he arrived, but Antonio has become a big star at the club. He has been a marvellous player for us and now we will benefit enormously from the money that we get for him.'

'As long as any deal is in the best long term interests of the club, and I believe this one is, then I will sanction it, and I know the Chairman agrees.'

'The bottom line here is that when two of the biggest clubs in the world come knocking, it would be near on impossible for any other club to prevent the move.'

Liverpool FC latest:Paul Anderson completes his move to Nottingham Forest.

LIVERPOOL winger Paul Anderson has signed for Nottingham Forest in a £250,000 deal.
[Linked Image]
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at the City Ground and has agreed a three-year contract.

Anderson failed to break into the first team at Anfield but believes he can achieve his dream of playing in the top flight with the Championship outfit.

He said: “Everyone’s ambition is to play in the Premiership and play at the highest level possible and I think we’re going to do that at this club.

“The ambition I’ve seen and the players I’ve seen at the club, there’s no reason why in the next couple of years we can’t be up in the Premiership.

“I’d love to go back to Anfield one day and show them what they have missed out on really.”

Anderson, who scored two goals in 28 appearances for Forest last season, turned down the chance to sign for Swansea City.

He arrived at Anfield from Hull City in January 2006 but the highly-rated youngster failed to live up to expectations and never made a competitive first team appearance.

Meanwhile, Wrexham manager Dean Saunders is in talks with Liverpool midfielder Ryan Flynn about returning to the Racecourse for the new season. Flynn spent the second half of last season with the Dragons, and his agent David Threlfall has revealed Liverpool want to farm him out again ready ahead of the new campaign.

Wrexham are expected to face stiff competition for the 20-year-old, who scored four goals in 21 appearances for the Dragons.

However, Saunders is hopeful he can persuade Flynn to return to the Racecourse after a spell in North Wales gave the Scottish youngster’s career the perfect boost.

Saunders said: “I’m hopeful he’ll come to us, although I know he’s probably got options.

“I’m hoping he’ll come back to us, and I’m hoping he’ll come back training stronger and fitter as he’ll be a year older. Hopefully he’ll have learned from last year and the time he spent with us will have done him good.”

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez believes another temporary switch will aid Flynn’s development, and a number of clubs are interested in him.

Threlfall said: “Liverpool are prepared to loan out Ryan during this summer’s transfer window. This is a big year for Ryan and he wants to be playing regular first-team football to continue his development.

“I have had a few enquiries for Ryan and we will sit down and decide what is the best option for him before deciding where to go.”

Flynn graduated from Liverpool’s Academy in the summer of 2006 after joining the club from Falkirk.

He was a key part of the club’s successive FA Youth Cup wins, scoring in the final against Manchester City in 2006 and bagging three goals during the 2007 campaign.

He is yet to make his senior debut for Liverpool but has featured in several pre-season friendlies.

Everton fear Lucas Neill exit after receiving bid from Galatasaray

LUCAS NEILL is on the brink of a shock exit from Goodison Park after Everton received a bid from Galatasaray.

The Australian international is considering ending his four and a half-month spell on Merseyside, lured by the Turkish club’s financial package.

[Linked Image]
Officials from Galatasaray are understood to have made an initial £750,000 bid for the Aussie, who has made 12 starts and three substitute appearances for Everton this season.

If Neill decides he wants to go and join international team-mate Harry Kewell at the Ali Sami Yen, it is believed David Moyes will not stand in his way.

It would represent a decent profit for a 31-year-old who cost Everton nothing, and Moyes would be reluctant to keep a player who is not committed to the Toffees cause.

However, the departure would cause the Scot a headache, as Neill has forged a promising partnership in the centre of defence with John Heitinga and his versatility has been a plus during the club’s injury crisis.

Galatasaray have been keen on the ex-West Ham man since the summer, and could be prepared to bid up to £1million for his services.

Neill would be eligible to play for the Turkish side in Europe, because he has not yet been able to feature in the Blues’ Europa League campaign. Intriguingly, Everton could meet Galatasaray in the next round.

Meanwhile, Everton are fast becoming the most talked about English club in the United States thanks to Tim Howard and Landon Donovan, according to ex-Manchester City star Claudio Reyna.

Reyna, who spent six years in the premier league, believes football fans in his home country will be glued to Everton matches on TV, as they monitor the form of their two key players ahead of the summer’s world cup.

He said: “It's very interesting for Americans to look at Everton now; they have been following them for a while with Tim being there. Throw Landon in and he's a very important player for the national team so a lot of people want to see how he does.

“Interest in the US has been steadily growing over the last few years. Everybody is going to be looking for the results because on one team we have two key players.

"I think American fans will be looking to see how they do, to see how much Landon plays and the better he does, the better for the national team.”

Reyna, who has retired from football and runs his own foundation to help poor children in New York and New Jersey, has fond memories of playing at Goodison.

He said: “It's a great stadium. I see these new stadiums coming in, but for older players, it's a bit unfortunate because I don't know if they can replicate the intimacy of some of the older grounds.

“At Goodison the fans were right on top of you, though they were quite friendly and it was a fun place to play. At City we had the game where we drew in the last few seconds of the game when Micah Richards scored.

“That was a good one to come back from. I had a couple of bad games with Sunderland there so I prefer to remember that one with Micah.”

l THERE will be a 10am pitch inspection today at Brighton’s Withdean Stadium to decide whether Everton’s Youth Cup fourth round tie against the Seagulls will go ahead as scheduled tomorrow.

2001–2007 Blackburn

Maxi Rodriguez jets in to complete transfer from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool FC

RAFA BENITEZ insisted it will be business as usual at Anfield tonight – as Maxi Rodriguez moved a step closer to completing his move to Liverpool.
[Linked Image]
Having experienced a turbulent weekend, which culminated in Tommy Hicks Jr’s much-publicised resignation from the board, the FA Cup third round replay against Reading offers a welcome diversion from off-field matters.

Rodriguez – who was due to undergo a medical this morning – is expected at Anfield to see his new team-mates in action and will wrap up his £1.5m switch from Atletico Madrid once he has finalised his pay-off from the La Liga side.

The Argentine international will then be able to put pen-to-paper on an 18-month contract and, by the time he does that, Benitez hopes Liverpool will have set up a fourth round home clash against Burnley later this month.

For the majority of supporters, talking about this evening’s game has been low on the list of priorities since Hicks Jr became embroiled in an email storm, but that has definitely not been the case for Benitez.

He has had little trouble in keeping focus and has promised that he will field a strong side as Liverpool aim to take their first step on the road to Wembley

“For us it is always important to concentrate on football and the main thing, as usual, is that we have to be ready from the start – other things do not matter,” said Benitez.

Tranmere Rovers sign midfielder Joss Labadie

TRANMERE Rovers have signed midfielder Joss Labadie on a two-year contract.

The 19-year-old spent the final month and a half of the season at Tranmere on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

He made nine appearances for Rovers, scoring three times including strikes in the wins over Exeter City and Stockport County.

He has had two previous loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Shrewsbury Town, scoring five times in 14 appearances for Shrewsbury.

Manager Les Parry said: "Joss really impressed us during his time on loan at the Club.

He was hard-working, professional and performed well on the pitch.

"He is strong, likes to get forward and I'm delighted he is our first signing of the summer.

"He fits in really well to the way we want to play and I'm pleased he has decided to come back permanently.

"To be able to bring in a young player of this caliber shows the Club's commitment to improving the squad and Joss is just the first of many new faces we want to bring to Tranmere this summer."

Yossi joins Chelsea

Liverpool have today completed the transfer of Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea Football Club.

The two clubs last month agreed an undisclosed fee for the player, who joined Liverpool from West Ham in 2007, and the deal has been confirmed this afternoon.

The 30-year-old Israeli international made 134 appearances and scored 29 goals during his three seasons with the Reds.

A Liverpool spokesman said: "Yossi's departure was agreed between the player and Rafael Benitez a number of weeks ago. Everybody at Liverpool FC wishes him well for the future."

Where have they gone?
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Football Chat - 3rd Jul 2010 10:08pm
Did'nt they announce a few weeks back that Ballack and Cole would be released by Chelsea, so unless either have signed for someone else by now, they are effectively free-agents to join any club they like, for no transfer fee.

Posted By: MattLFC Re: Football Chat - 4th Jul 2010 1:11am
The rumor was, when they were released anyway, that it was very likely they already had agreed terms with new clubs even before Chelsea had released them, as they knew it was going to happen.

So it would not surprise me if Cole went to Spurs, keeps him in London etc...

Liverpool have agreed to sell Insua to Italian club Fiorentina.

OH and Joe Cole's next club is meant to be liverpool ?? confused yipee
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Football Chat - 18th Jul 2010 3:10pm
Would be interesting if it were true, I would'nt say no to him, could be a good addition. But I hope they are concentrating on holding onto Masch first and foremost.

Although we shall see what happens, no hints to it on the BBC as yet.

smile
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Football Chat - 18th Jul 2010 3:18pm
Oh and not entirely sure what the point behind selling Insua was... decent enough, young player, in a position were we now need to bring in two players. Not looking good, seems like we may be starting to shed our assets as a result of our financial position. We will be gutted if he turns out quite well in a few years.

I hope im wrong, and I hope Hodgson has something up his sleeve (and indeed that this sale is his decision and not the boards etc).

Yeah with you on Mascherano an Insua, would of Prefered Lucas or N'Gog to have gone..

Fantastic and positive news for the club, certainly a better player than Benayoun imho. Think we have done well to sell Yossi to Chelsea and then take Cole on a free lol!

I just hope to god we can hold onto Masch, and then we might start having something to look forward to, at least where our midfield is concerned. A shrewed bit of business by Hodgson, I wonder if Cole would have chosen us over Spurs and Arsenal had Benitez still been in charge - I think not!

Tranmere Rovers sign international goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen on loan

TRANMERE Rovers have completed the loan signing of goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen from Manchester City this afternoon.

The 23-year old Faroe Islands international will be part of Les Parry's Prenton Park squad until January.

Nielsen began his career with HB Torshavn before joining Danish side BK Frem Copenhagen.

While there he caught the eye of Premier League side Blackburn Rovers and moved to England in July 2007.

He spent time at Motherwell and Wrexham on loan before joining Manchester City last summer. He made his Premier League debut in April.

Nielsen made his first international appearance for the Faroe Islands in March 2009 and is expected to be first choice for his nation in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Rovers manager Les Parry said: "I'm delighted to bring a goalkeeper of Gunnar’s quality to the Club.

"He's highly rated at Manchester City, and I've been impressed with him every time I've seen him play in their reserves.

"He's an excellent shot stopper who commands his area and he’s a great addition to our squad.

"I'd like to thank Roberto Mancini for allowing Gunnar to join us."

Tranmere Rovers sign two new strikers

TRANMERE have completed the signings of strikers Lucas Akins, subject to international clearance, and Adam McGurk on one year contracts this afternoon.

Akins, 21, joins Rovers following a successful week long trial.

He progressed through the Huddersfield Town youth system before making his debut in 2007.

He moved to Scottish Premier League side Hamilton Academical in 2008 and spent time on loan at Partick Thistle.

McGurk, 21, is a product of the Aston Villa youth system.

The Northern Ireland under-21 international joined Rovers on trial three weeks ago and signed on a non-contract basis after impressing in a friendly against Liverpool. He was included in the squads against Walsall and Huddersfield Town, came on as a substitute against Bournemouth and scored for the Reserves last week.

Manager Les Parry said: "I'd like to welcome both Lucas and Adam to the Club.

"They've both done really well with us during their time here, have shown excellent attitude and ability and are bright prospects.

"They are hungry young footballers who add to our attacking options and I'm delighted they have both agreed to join us."

Rovers take on Swansea City in the Carling Cup second round at Prenton Park tonight (7.45pm).

Their npower League One campaign continues this Saturday, with an away game against Dagenham and Rebridge at Victoria Road (3pm).
