Natural England is proposing that robins and other birds in England can be killed and their nests and their eggs destroyed. We must stop this proposal now!

According to the Guardian, "it appears that the country's 6.7m pairs of robins are no longer the feathered friend of yesteryear. A consultation by Natural England, the body that advises the government on the natural environment, has made the case for allowing people to destroy the birds' nests and remove their eggs, amid growing concerns that they threaten health and safety. Natural England is also looking at similar measures to permit "taking, damaging and destroying of nests and eggs" for pied wagtails and starlings."

This is straight-out wrong in every single sense of the word. Who are we to play god and decide what is to live and die?

We should be protecting wildlife not destroying it.

There is a reason for their existence. They are not here for our amusement or to annoy us. They are all part of the environment and need to be here.

Stop endangering our wildlife and messing up our world. As the Guardian says, "Natural England has produced an analysis which suggests that the new measures, permitted under what are known as "general licences", will have no conservation issues for the three bird species. It is also proposing similar action against greylag geese and mallards. But the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) says it is concerned that the measures, due to be introduced next year, will mean the birds' nests and eggs can be destroyed without monitoring."

Speak up and stop this injustice to these birds and their eggs and nests.

We should be helping birds, not destroying and killing them. We have literally destroyed huge parts of their homes and their natural environment. So it's only fair that they nest in our homes.

So sign and stop this Injustice and make Natural England realize that we don't accept the way they treat our beloved world and its wildlife and beautiful birds and all the other creatures that we share this world with.

Done.
Birds have nested in my loft causing loads of damage, crapped all over the place, loads of grass. I even had creepy crawlies.
The birds ate their way in, so now I shoot every feckin one of them that gets in.
We should do what the Chinese done years ago.

This sort of thing annoys me. Someone hoping to create a bit of favouritism in Westminster's corridors, and achieve the next rung on the ladder. When did you last see a wagtail or a starlings nest ? There aren't any around here.
You do what you must Zipper, but you've just sunk to the lowest levels in my estimations.
What the Chinese did years ago had implications.

quote "Chairman Mao, killed all the sparrows in northern China because they ate grain, then he had to use insecticide to kill the bugs that the sparrows ate, and now people in the south of China must collect pollen and ship it to the north... then people have to pollinate the blooms by hand. Leave the birds alone. Don't upset the balance of nature in you locality"

Done. Always thought Robins were a much loved bird in England.
Iv'e signed it Rude, this is an egregious proposal and for the life of me I can't see how Robins threaten Health and Safety,it makes you wonder how we've managed to live so long without the HSE.
I've signed. I have robins nesting in my garden. If anyone tried to destroy them, I would be up for assault. They are beautiful birds and I cannot possibly see how they could be a danger to anyone.

Ah but they interfered with nature and paid the price didnt they.

"The four pests to be eliminated were rats, flies, mosquitoes, and sparrows.[1] The extermination of the last upset the ecological balance, and enabled crop-eating insects to proliferate"

Here is what I had to do to get the buggers out of my loft, taken looking up at my front bedroom window

Do a random survey and ask people to name their favourite British bird and without thinking most people will tell you it's the robin. Of course it is: people love robins. They have them on tea-towels, Christmas cards and cake tins. So a suggestion from Natural England to include the 'gardener's friend' on a list of species which can have their eggs and nests destroyed in certain circumstances was always going to be highly controversial. And people have been contacting us in their droves about whether we're going to object. Our answer: yes, of course.

Ah yes, as long as they don't open the tomb of the Ancient Leasowe Pharaoh we wont be overcome by a plague of locusts :-)
I think pesticides will take care of the insects and us included :-(
Signed. Nature needs protecting.
