FREE TO GOOD HOME ARE YOU SURE???

For every free to good home pet. There is one good caring person wanting to re home them. But,there are at least nine bad people who want that pet for other reasons.

1, The pet peddler- takes on free pets to sell on for profit to anyone who will buy them.

2, The dog baiter. - takes free pets and gives them to his dog to rip up for fun; Or for dog fighting.

3, The puppy farmer – takes free pets for breeding to make money. Looks for adds saying pet is not spayed/neutered.

4, The fake rescue. Will take your pet saying they are a rescue then use the word rescue to ask for a donation to sell the pet. They have no real care for the pets welfare.

5. The experiment labs - known for taking unwanted pets to use in there labs.

6. The pet hoarder - takes on any free pet as a novelty. Then dump it or give it away when the novelty wears off or keeps until they can't cope and the authorities step in.

7. The pet hater - Takes free pets to kill them and use as target practise.

8. The pet feeder - Takes in small free pets to feed to their snakes , lizards and so on.

9. The back yard breeder – wants your free dog for breeding to make money.

10. The fetishists and the animal hoarders - look especially for small animals..little kittens, puppies and rabbits are their favourites.

All the above people look through all pet sites for one word FREE. And all will promise you a loving home for your pet to make you hand it over.

For every pet that is advertised free. There is only a one in ten chance it will go to a loving home. Is it worth the risk?
FREE. the most dangerous word to use when advertising your pet.

Oh my God Tilly, that makes the most depressing reading. And while it's probably a true snapshot of the underbelly of society, I really hope it's only an exceptionally small percentage of the human race sick

Its getting worse out there re; animal abuse. I posted this on my facebook page and this is what a Lady in rescue replied....
Quote
I hope people take notice I was talking to a dog warden that is picking dogs of all ages, so many dogs that have been dumped by pet peddlars that they got dogs from ads 'free to a good home' two dogs where so bad they had to be PTS the rest all in a bad way and one starved.

There have been countless dead dogs pulled from the birkenhead docks with horrific bite wounds, mouths and legs taped up frown it's not news worthy so you dont hear of it as much.

I apologise if it offends anyone...but its the harsh reality of this day and age...

Gumtree is one of the worst offenders for the free animal ads

Netmums are bad too. They used to have a policy of no pet ads, so Id report every one that slipped through, and explained to management pretty much all the points you have made above Tilly and they got the ads deleted. Then earlier this year, they for whatever reason, changed the rules, and started to allow free animal ads !
You are right though, these things do happen, Ive seen it myself. Ive personally rung one of these free ads in a particular area of EP where we knew that several families were using all the rabbits they could lay their hands on to 'train' their fighting staffs, and the person with the ad was horrified, she just didnt realize it went on at all.
I also did a homecheck some years ago for a school who were giving away a pair of GP babies and the small boy in the prospective family blew it by telling me graphically about the snakes they had upstairs and what they ate!!

The list of situations Tilly has described, are partly why responsible genuine animal rescues, ask for money for their animals. Its not just that its needed to help recoup rescue costs, but having to part with cash means that at least it will filter out the worst abusers , and will hopefully also deter impulse owners who rarely keep pets long.

Warning To All Animal Lovers

Wednesday October 3rd 2012

WARNING TO ALL STAFFY OWNERS OR SIMILAR, PARTICULARLY IN THE CHESHIRE AREA.

A man has been spotted in a RED ESCORT VAN looking to buy staffy's.

THIS MAN IS USING THEM FOR BAIT!

If spotted please contact the RSPCA or the police!

Anyone requiring proof that this is a genuine appeal should check it out on the Cheshire RSPCA website.

Dog fighting is on the increase and many pets are being bought or stolen to use as bait.

This is happening EVERYWHERE so take care of your pets.

Never leave pets unattended outside shops etc.

Never give pets away for free - always check out any potential owners.

If you must rehome it is always better to try to do this through a rescue centre.

Bloody hell, it couldnt get much worse could it. I hope all the newspapers are made aware of this in their advertising sections. There should be a notice in the pet sections to make people aware of this. Thanks for all the information Tilly.

very sad but it's been happening for many years, it just doesn't get the publicity it should get
