Its a young cormorant!
....Nick.
wow your right, They get even bigger
its a heron, fully grown.cormorants are found out at sea
A cormorant it definitely is. Unusual to see it in such a setting agreed. Grab any bird book and look up cormorant.
Ste..... Specsavers address is in the phone book ! ha.ha.
Not a heron. This is a heron.
Cormorants will be found where any good fish are to be had, many years ago there was one who used to fish Lairds Basin, came back year after year, I seen him sitting on the mast arm not far from me and they can be depending on species one hell of a size.
Birkenhead Park lake does have a couple of Heron who are frequent visitors.
Double edged sword really, their presence means a healthyish fish stock, it also means that it won't be too long before the larder is empty.
there was a Heron sat about 10 meters from it but the pics I took of it were not so good, I'll upload one
Maybe it's Graculus, from Noggin the Nog
Ah... with the title 'Large Bird in Birkenhead' I was thinking 'well that's nothing new...'
Lots of cool birds rocking around Birkenhead (the feathery ones)
yea cormorant. they r buggers. there were 5 about at the beginning of the closed season but rumour has it they all got shot.and aint seen none about for weeks untill last week i seen 2. they were pulling stupid amounts of fish out of there. and that heron. av seen that heron pull a 1 lb crucian out. but yes they are fishing there because there is a good healthy body of fish in there (none of any real size though) and it is fishing really really well. get a really good days catch on a gd few pegs in there a the min.
Say What?! Are you serious man? now come on! you can not tell my this was in Birkenhead Park, well youve got me, i am astonished! <3
Top Park lake if I am not mistaken, seen them in there too Chuck. They'll be off as soon as they've eaten all the stock.
