Parkside vets in Wallasey Village
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Vets? - 30th Mar 2011 10:12am
Never had a problem with Seaview personally, that's where Rosie the dog goes.

However, Parkside were excellent when dealing with my poor old cat Barney (RIP) - so I'd definitely recommend them.

We took our 16yr old cat a couple of years back, as she seemed like she had a stroke or something. They told us she had renal failure, weren't very helpful at all, and only suggestion really was to put her to sleep due to her age. We wouldn't do it, and she got better and 2 years on shes still here lol
We think our other cat has something similar to appendicitis, as she was never spayed. Weve booked her in to Broadway on Wallasey Rd later on today, so fingers crossed she will be ok!

I'd never advise anyone to take an animal to parkside either. They don't give a stuff about animals its all about the money. They refused to come out to one of our Satan Bernards when he was kindling with Epilepsy and by the time we got him help (from Broadway) he was braindead. It's Broadway vets in Wallasey and they're great.

Me too had problems, same thing dog having fits, wouldn't come out just said put her in dark room on her own and leave her!!

Allport vets came out straight away when i phoned them, even tho i wasn't a customer, but its in bromborough so most prob too far to travel.
They are very caring with your pets and its not all about money, they let me pay over several months when i was struggling for cash.

oh thats good that you recommend Broadway smile
I'm quite shocked about Parkside though, as when our dog died we took him there and they were really friendly. Don't think we ever got any treatment there tho.

Ive always used Birch Vets, Moreton and Oxton. Always caring and informative.
When my beloved Tia was put down they even sent us a card of condonence and called to see if i was ok!!
Posted By: nicky Re: Vets? - 30th Mar 2011 12:05pm
I cant believe that Vets can get away with treating pets like this. Its awful hearing all the things some of you have said frown
I saw the other post before about emergency numbers for pets and noticed the Birch Vets one for callouts, were they expensive Hoseman?

Broadway were great with us. Parkside refused to come out i phoned and phoned as ted'd been kindling most of the night and it was give him another potassium bromide and he'll be ok. Then when my husband phoned because he thought it was rediculous, the head of practice had the cheek to say i was over emontional and he'd be ok with the tablets. So we phoned Broadway and explained the situation to them. They said it wasn't proffessional practice to step on another vets toes, but they'd come out and assess ted for us. When they got here the only way to stop him fitting as it had been so long (5 hours), was to very carefully dose him over 15 mins with the stuff they euthanise dogs with. but they said he was probably braindead as his brain had overheated from the fitting. They were disgusted with the treatment we'd had from Parkside and i believe wrote the head of practise a scathing letter saying so. Parkside even refused to refund 125 pounds of pills we'd gotten from them the day before and were unopened, so through Broadway we donated them to people who had dogs with epilepsy . Teds brain and spinal cord went to royal liverpool vetinary hospital to help other dogs with epilepsy, so he didn't die in vain. But if Parkside had come out and given him a shot of adrenaline then he would've been ok. We paid through the nose for the service and they let us down . I'd Never recommended them to anyone

Had bad experiences with Parkside and Broadway with Fawn, our last Lab.
Had to ring an emergency vet one sunday and ended up going to Ian Beveridge at Daryl Road in Heswal.
He was fantastic and he ended up looking after her for the last eight months of her life.
Needless to say when we got Indie as a pup we registered her with him straight away.
I realise it's a long way to go but if you're mobile I can guarantee 100% your cat will be in good hands.

Going there wouldnt be a problem its just fitting it in with work. Plus it was quite urgent so my mums takin her at 3 to Broadway.
Im hoping they dont need to keep her overnight

Tilli is fine now thanks smile apparently caught her just in time! Shes had injections and is on some antibiotics. She seems a lot happier too. My mum said Broadway Vets were really friendly and helpful. Have to take her back soon to be spayed but so far i would definitely recommend using that vets!

Broadway Vets is at the top of Kings lane, across on the right.
As I said earlier I took my last Labrador there just the once.
She was getting breathless and had an irritating cough.
I saw a woman vet (who's name I can't remember) who after a lengthy examination diagnosed a throat/chest infection.
She prescribed some antibiotics and anti inflammatorys and told me to come back in a week if there was no change.
I returned after a week only for Fawn to be prescribed different drugs.
There was still no change and finally after a third visit and more drugs Fawn seemed to settle down.
I called back to Broadway to pay the bill (£160) and the same vet told me that if the symptoms returned I should try using Childrens Benylin.
WTF ?
This was about two weeks before Christmas.
In the period between Christmas and New Year Fawn took ill again with the same symptoms so I tried the Benylin which was useless.
Out of frustration I took her to the RSPCA clinic in Livingstone St and made a donation to have her examined.
The vet there took less than 30 seconds to diagnose the real problem.....Progressive Heart Disease.
Fawn was treated with drugs by the RSPCA vet for the next few months until one Sunday morning she had a fit and I phoned the emergency vet who happened to be Ian Beveridge.
He looked after Fawn like she was his own for the last eight months of her life.
She finally died from a heart attack in my van on Levers Causeway, while I was taking her to see him for some more tablets.
Ian and the rest of the staff sent us a card and a bouquet to express their sympathy, also he never gave me the final bill, which I know for a fact was a hefty one.
He's a good man and a great vet.

Yeah looking back it was pretty bad as like it or not our pets become part of our family and Fawn went everywhere with me.
This happened a good few years ago now.
Time goes on and I've now got another Lab, Indie, who also goes everywhere with me and Ian Beveridge has been taking great care of her since day one.
I've always said that vets are like mechanics, in that we are just the public with limited knowledge and can therefore be an easy target.
Thankfully I've got a trustworthy mechanic that I use and a trustworthy vet. smile
But as for Broadway Vets, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole after my last experience frown

I was heartbroken when my dog died and that was just through old age so i cant imagine how you must have felt Stranger going through that. I would rather go through the pain than watch a pet suffer and not knowing what is wrong. But no matter how skint we are we always find the cash to pay for the vet bills lol
I will bear Ian in mind incase i ever need him in future. Was lovely of him to do what he did. Thats what all vets should be like!

I was just wonderin where she worked now if she was a vet.
I could never do that job, it must be so hard not getting attached to the animals.

she works in a kids care home now, couldn't be bothered with all the training!!
she never really got attached to the animals, although she did bring home a hedgehog, blackbird, magpie and a few other critters from time to time that had been brought in wink

We take our animals to Ian Beveridge at Daryl vets in Heswall. He is a one man practice and of the old school.. but such a caring man. Dont expect anything fancy... no state of the art amazing techology as you see with some vet practises.. just good old fashioned expertise and a caring attitude.

We've used various vets over the years and alot of them fell short and it was obvious that money was the main aim and not the animals welfare.. but Ian is totally different. He hates to put anything down..will do his utmost to heal and save.

We work closely with a greyhound/lurcher rescue which he knows about... and he has wavered and reduced costs to the rescue..such a gent!
Plus he has been known to have pets brought in by some uncaring owners to be PTS for selfish and callous reasons( not that the aninmal was ill or anything ) but as long as the animal is able to be treated Ian has kept some of these animals himself to live out their days with him.
He has also asked us to rehome a certain little dog who was brought in to be destroyed by her owners because they were fed up with her.. and even though we are a greyhound/lurcher rescue and this dog was a different breed we gladly helped him out and that certain little dog is now living happily in a new loving family.

Without Ian she would be dead now.

When particular treatment is needed he will refer to specialists and we have experience of this. We were amazed at some of the fascilities of their practises resembling a private hospital.. and yes it looks impressive and wonderful... but often the service is impersonal and the bed side manner non existant.
Ian may not have swish premises.. but the care is second to none and that is what counts.

Highly recommended!

He sounds great. Will deffo have to bear him in mind! Our other cat Sooty is gonna be 19 this year and could do with a trip to the vet but last time she had a panic attack coz she hates it and i think Heswall may be too far to travel with her.

Hi use Birch Vets. Used Churchview originally, but their out of hours service is Chestergates and we wanted something more local.

I have not long been with Birch, i was using another vet for about 15 years, but had a very bad experience with my last dog, who was put to sleep in Feb this year. In dispute with them at the moment via the RCVS. I want to name them and spread it everywhere, but i cant...so i'm not going to name who it is. If you want to know, i will tell you through private messaging.

Birch is very good, the older receptionist in moreton is quite snotty but the vets are fabulous,
