the Mersey Inn at 246 New Chester Road. The name above the door is that of Edward Amos who was the licencee until his death on 24th December 1883.
Was this on the corner of West View by where the tannery BLCo used to be or further along New Chester Road?

We had a good discussion about this one, and others nearby, sometime early last year, so it's good to see you have a photo now.
I think we agreed that the location was where Frank Bather's tyres is now.

Take a look at the earlier topic Some Tranmere Pubs that have gone.

I think you'll find we agreed that the Mersey Inn/Hotel was on the corner of Croxteth Street (formerly Derby Street) not Spring Street (formerly Pleasant Street). Frank Bather's, officially nos. 248-258, occupies the block originally between Croxteth Street and Spring Street, and is on the site of the New Inn at no. 258. Booker's Wholesale is on the site of the Mersey Inn.

Yes marty, you are right. I should have read further down the text in the first discussion which cleared up and corrected the position of 'The Mersey Inn' as published in the Tranmere book.
