what a great pub that was. very cosy inside, a real shame it came down
it came down to make space for aldi ..
Sorry but that is not quite true. Aldi was built and operating while that pub was still standing .
I remember sitting in my car in the Aldi car park and looking up at the big stone "urns" on
the various corners of the roofline and thinking what would happen if those heavy buggers
fell off their perches !
Difficult to say from the aerial, here is the old cinema and pub in 2000, unfortunately in 2003 it was cloudy but the Aldi and car park were built - I'd say the pub had gone. Also included 2005 to help with the layout.

If you look at the 2000 pic and then the 2005 pic, the entrance into aldi car park is the original alma street.
Aldi opened in nove 2003.
The building knockled down to make way for Aldi was originally the Rialto Cinema which was positioned where the actual shop is now. The Queens would have been on the left hand corner of the Aldi car park just down from the Railway hotel. can't say exactly when the Rialto stopped showing films but it later became a pool club, I think it was non alchoholic sort of a teenagers hangout. When I was a kid there were two cinemas in New Ferry, the already mentioned Rialto and the Lyceum which occupied the buiding that is now Iceland.
