Famous (or infamous) for the story of the gamekeeper being attacked and nearly roasted alive in the fireplace.

Wow, never heard that one before . Wonder if it used to just be a private house originally .

I think it was built as an inn, original name was Shrewsbury Arms but became the Hinderton Inn before going back to the Shrewsbury Arms and now the Hinderton Arms. It was in existence before 1826 but was probably built after the turnpike act of 1763 introduce turnpikes around Chester in 1767.

No mention in Pigots 1822 directory but many inns not in built up areas are missing.
