No, it's not gone downhill, but it had a temporary problem when the landlady tried to ruin it for 12 months. The customers wouldn't let her so she left. The problems of late 2008 plastered all over the press were a hangover from those days.

All in good hands now (mine!) and we're still sticking to the old principles, sport, footy, and a bloody good Sunday teatime. Lots of old customers have returned as well as a good few new ones. Not a young pub, we mainly attract 30+ singles and couples.

On a side note, I'm researching the history of the pub but have hit a stumbling block due to its name, everything leads to the real Castle on Leasowe Road. If anybody has anything of interest or any pointers as to where I could look next I'd greatly appreciate it.

Was going for a pint today Sunday at 1305h. Not a light to be seen, only small ones over the bar, doors all closed. What time does it open?
Looks like this is another one to bite the dust....all boarded up as of yesterday.

Interesting, not been down there before.
What is this huge silo thing @ http://g.co/maps/7wswd

I've not noticed it before unless its a Mersey tunnel vent? but it looks like you can walk underneath it which is strange.

Yes, it is the vent for the Kingsway tunnel. Each 'leg' takes the stale air from the tunnel beneath it, sending it up the centre stack.

And I hope that this is not another permanent pub closure.

Thanks for the info, thought it would be ventilation shafts.

Think it will be a permanent closure, there's loads of pubs closed recently, even the Pensby Hotel by me there is talk of it been demolishing.

On 11th Jan, it was posted on The Leasowes facebook wall that it was a tempory closure due to electricity problems and they would be re opening.

Plus has just been past and they are preparing to cover the windows with those metal sheets and there is a removals van. frown
The Leasowe Castle is up for sale at the moment for £125,000.
Looks like it sold for around £70,000.

Just speaking to the builders today and sadly it's not going to be a pub anymore, I was told its going to be a community centre on the ground floor and top floors to be affordable accommodation.

Not wanting to doubt this, I rang the planners but they know nothing about the work and change of use. They were quite pleased to find this out though smile
The builders looked like young kids on some sort of programme, i thought.
