There have been quite few different clubs in this stretch of building over the years. One of the best known in the early 60s was the Cubik, where several later famous pop bands played.

That`s right mate and there was a brutal murder committed in there, either postmaster or night man was bludgeoned to death,in the very same building.I have often had arguments with (shall we say the old school)that the post office was in Argyle St and always has been. They did not like being corrected on thier own history by a younger generation.lol.

I'm sure "Mr Digby's" and "Ma Bakers" were around at the same time and so couldn't be at the same place, or this was an upstairs and downstairs jobber?

I thought Ma Bakers turned straight into Pink Flamingo.

Can't find any pictures of Mr Digby's anywhere - they used to get quite a few of the big bands on there, certainly more than Hamiltons.

I used to go to it when it was New Orleans/Basin street but it was still quite often known as Ma Bakers.

If the pic is correct why is the Post Office letters further along over the Cool room and beach

I think the Cool Room used to be cubik and mainly for beatnicks
then it may have been the California before any of the other names
