What is happening?

Another 'sink hole' appeared in the drive of some ones home yesterday morning and swallowed their car! You have probably seen it on the news.
This is happening all over the world. America, China, Dead Sea, Russia and U.K., to mention just a few.
The latest has put it down to rainfall and underground mines, but they can't be attributed to 'sink holes' appearing in other parts of the world. Some climates are very different.
Plus, the one in Derbyshire recently, was in the middle of a load of fields, no weight from above. So why now and never before and why are they nearly always round in shape?
I think it's quite alarming to be truthful. Watch the video in the first link. Really scary. Picture from one in Guatamala.
More images on second link.

Peak District sinkhole
Quote
The hole, believed to be about 160ft (49m) wide and 130ft (40m) deep, was caused by mining in the area, according to landowner British Fluorspar.

The firm has been asked to stabilise the hole and fill it in.

Thanks for that. Will definitely watch it.

Just been looking for more info online. They are appearing everywhere. Spain, Italy, Portugal, Africa, Turkey, India, Canada and goodness knows where else. They are not a new phenomena but are happening now at an alarming rate! It would appear that our climates, world wide and many other natural catastrophic happenings have become far more common since the south Asian tsunami of 2004, or is that a bit of paranoia?

According to one article, the African plates may have begun to slip, which I find more believable than all these mines collapsing all at the same time due to various, differing reasons. e.g. Ruptured water mains, could have been caused by the sinkhole, rather than the other way around.
Anyway, will find out more tonight, hopefully, on Horizon.

It was very interesting, only wish they had not concentrated on Florida alone.

Where do you think these pics are taken. The first two are of the Dead Sea. Article relating

In the past half century, the populations of Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories have ballooned from 5 million to over 20 million. Along with Syria and Lebanon, these thirsty nations pull water from the Jordan River and its tributaries, cutting flow to the Dead Sea to less than 26 billion gallons per year compared to 343 billion gallons a century back.

Next, factor in Dead Sea industries like the Israel Chemicals Company and the Jordanian Arab Potash Company. To support their mineral extraction processes, these companies extract enormous volumes of seawater, accounting for about 40% of the water level decrease
