Posted By: sunnyside Re: Did you know........ - 11th Aug 2012 1:21pm
just measured my foot to the inside of my elbow that too is a rough guide. i couldn't use it to buy a pair of shoes lol they would be too big i would have to turn round in asdas car park some people are not always in proportion to the rest of the body, we are not all a standard size, i wish we were it would save me a fortune as i always have to have trousers shortened and i am 5" 7" not short for a woman.

The reason our tongues stick to ice is because the ice itself is so cold that it actually freezes the moisture on our tongues. The moisture on our tongues then becomes ice itself, and our tongues get stuck to it.

New Brighton Lighthouse was originally, a wooden "Perch", hence its name. A large post held a light on top and was supported by a sort of tripod. It was erected on the Black Rock in 1683 by the Liverpool Corporation.

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural cause.

If the four legs are in the air, the horse died in battle,

You might find its a myth Granny.

Bert, have you ever seen a statue of a horse with it's four legs in the air?

Where did you get that from, have you read it incorrectly?

Anyway, wouldn't surprise me, beginning to believe my whole life is a myth!

LukeORourke, even if all the other lovely wiki members passed you by, I think Canberra sounds a lovely place. It's much further away than 4 hrs for us, as you well know but maybe you could send us some pics, to show us how beautiful it is. That would save us all rushing down to view. wink

Norman Thelwell was born on 3 May 1923 in Tranmere, Birkenhead, Cheshire, the son of a machinist. He was educated at Rock Ferry High School, Birkenhead, and always carried a pencil and a sketchbook, recalling later that "it was simply natural for me": "No one ever mentioned art, and I didn't feel I had any particular ability." Thelwell sold his first drawings - of chickens - at the age of fifteen, and left school a year later to become a junior clerk in a Liverpool office...........cont on link
