Thought of the day

Someone explained to me yesterday, that the moon, the sun and the earth are the perfect size.If they were any different in size and distance from each other, we wouldn't have total solar or lunar eclipses. That is food for thought!

Have you got a thought of the day?

very true and very good granny thank you for sharing
Posted By: kenmo52 Re: Thought of the Day! - 14th Jul 2012 10:53am
Hi Granny yes it is amazing and it all goes much, much further.
The moon is the perfect size and distance from the earth to exert gravitational pull that controls the tides. The earth is the perfect distance from the sun to support water and therefore life. Nearer the sun it would be too hot, further away it would be too cold.
For an incredible insight into these things and much, much more watch Brian Cox's amazing series Wonders of the Universe, currently on Sky's Eden channel.

Fascinating !!..... So is it feasible that there could be other planets with their own moons and suns in exactly the right position to enable them to sustain life forms ??
Posted By: kenmo52 Re: Thought of the Day! - 14th Jul 2012 11:22am
Yes it is perfectly feasible and mathematically it is virtually a certainty.
Our sun is a star with its own solar system, including the earth and other planets orbiting around it.
The latest estimate of the number of stars in the observable universe is approximately 5 times the number of grains of sand on planet earth. These numbers are inconceivable.

My thought of the day, is what my Dad wrote in my autograph book in 1956 when I was age ten:

'Today is the day we worried about yesterday, and all is well'

You are right that a light year is the distance that light travels in one year. But it only takes 8 minutes for the light from the Sun to reach us. A light year is 186,000 ( the speed of light in 1 second) x 60 x 60 x 24 x 365= 5,865,696,000,000 miles!

That's why i enjoy watching Professor Brian Cox's TV programmes. As for UFO's: they exist I'm sure...but they ain't from another world. Something explainable for all of the reported sightings, I feel sure. Many are hoaxes. Just saying.

That can't be true. The statement indicates that most smiles are triggered by another person smiling first. If that's the case its probably 50/50, but, it sounded nice smile

"Most" smiles are triggered by the smiles of others.

The rest by watching middle aged men on the ice pretending to be 10 again, a dog trying to catch its own tail and a cat attacking its own reflection in the mirror...

Don't treat every day like its your last, because that's the worst day you're ever going to get.

Deal with one worry at a time, you can't shed them all at once so don't try.

remember: love is like a fart

It can build up inside you until you finally can't keep it in
It can sneak up on you but everyone around you knows about it soon enough
If you have to try to hard to get it, it's probably sh!t.

Thought for today.

quote:Thoughts have great power, they are like seeds you plant in your mind.

The more you hold onto a particular thought, the more power you invest in it. Positive thoughts give us energy and strength. Negative thoughts rob us of power and make us feel tired and strained.

We are by nature positive. Negativity is the result of faulty thinking. You can change if you want to :

Derinkuyu, Turkey.

The largest of the Cappadocia underground complexes is multi-storey (18 storeys, 85m deep), with fresh flowing water, ventilation shafts and individually separated living quarters or 'apartments', shops, communal rooms, wells, tombs, arsenals and escape routes. It has the potential to house up to 20,000 people. The complex was air conditioned throughout, with 52 air shafts discovered so far, one of which is 55m deep.. some wells were not connected with the surface, presumably in order to protect the dwellers from poisoning during raids. HOW DID THEY KNOW?
SOMETHING IN THE UNIVERSE THAT IS GREATER AND DEEPER THAN HUMAN INTELLIGENCE.THE ELEPHANT'S JOURNEY TO PAY RESPECT, BUT HOW DID THEY KNOW ?????????

Lawrence Anthony, a legend in South Africa and author of 3 books including the bestseller
The Elephant Whisperer, bravely rescued wildlife and rehabilitated
elephants all over the globe from human atrocities, including the
courageous rescue of Baghdad Zoo animals during US invasion in 2003
.
On March 7, 2012 Lawrence Anthony died.
.
He is remembered and missed by his wife, 2 sons, 2 grandsons & numerous elephants.
Two days after his passing, the wild elephants showed up at his home led by two large matriarchs.
Separate wild herds arrived in droves to say goodbye to their beloved man-friend'.
A total of 31 elephants had patiently walked over 12 miles to get to his
South African House.

Witnessing this spectacle, humans were obviously in awe not only because of the
supreme intelligence and precise timing that these elephants sensed about Lawrence 's
passing, but also because of the profound memory and emotion the beloved animals
evoked in such an organized way:
Walking slowly -for days -
Making their way in a solemn one-by-one queue from their habitat to his house.
Lawrence's wife, Francoise, was especially touched, knowing that the elephants
had not been to his house prior to that day for well over 3 years!
But yet they knew where they were going.
The elephants obviously wanted to pay their deep respects, honoring their friend
who'd saved their lives - so much respect that they stayed for 2 days 2 nights without eating anything..
Then one morning, they left, making their long journey back home............

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between 2 "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

I like these type of related stories.

The Whale - A Beautiful and Thought-Provoking Tale
Will and Guy have been sent this report by two of our regular contributors to the site - Maggie Nutt and John Reeves. We are grateful for their additions.

A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.
A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands [off the coast of San Francisco, California, USA] and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her. A very dangerous proposition as one slap of the tail could kill a prospective rescuer.

They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.

When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.

The man who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

Definitely worth a thought!

Inside the mind of a psychopath

Lying is like breathing to the psychopath. When caught in a lie and challenged, they make up new lies, and don't care if they're found out. As Hare states, "Lying, deceiving, and manipulation are natural talents for psychopaths...When caught in a lie or challenged with the truth, they are seldom perplexed or embarrassed -- they simply change their stories or attempt to rework the facts so that they appear to be consistent with the lie. The results are a series of contradictory statements and a thoroughly confused listener." (Hare, 46).

Psychopaths may also sense that they are different and damaged when compared with others, which feeds further resentments.

Everyone who knows a psychopath will be stabbed in the back, sooner or later.

Guggenbuhl-Craig states that they are very talented at appearing much more humble than the average person, but are hardly so.

The psychopath also appears not to be able to remember what they had said or committed to for very long. They seem to always be living in the present. That is why they are usually guilty of being big promise-makers who cannot live up to their word. Once again, it will be the victim who must deal with the aftermath of all the psychopath's twists and turns, and when he/she gets you angry enough, you will be discredited as "defective" by him/her, and the psychopath will often make himself/herself out to be the real victim.

Posted By: Sanchez Re: Thought of the Day! - 30th Oct 2012 1:24am
Is falling out of line classed as psychopathic?

Rules, even natural order, if followed makes for a boring human, an almost robotic like presence. How many rules are to be broken before one is called a psychopath I wonder..

Scary thought of the day.

1,000 turtle doves falling dead in Italy with strange blue stain on their beaks

Mass winter deaths among spot fish have occurred twice before in the Maryland area - in 1976 and 1980.

The incident is the latest mass animal death to hit the headlines in the last two weeks.

These include:

450 red-winged blackbirds, brown-headed cowbirds, grackles and starlings found littering a highway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
3,000 blackbirds on roofs and roads in the small town of Beebe, Arkansas

Thousands of 'devil crabs' washed up along the Kent coast near Thanet
Thousands of drum fish washed along a 20-mile stretch of the Arkansas River
Two million small fish in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland
Thousands of dead fish found floating in warm Florida creek
Hundreds of snapper fish found dead in New Zealand
Scores of American Coots found dead on Texas highway bridge

Experts have speculated that New Year fireworks, thunderstorms, cold weather, parasites and even poisoning may be behind the deaths.

But conspiracy theorists have also speculated on the internet that secret government experiments could be behind them, with some even claiming it was a sign of a looming Armageddon at the end of the Mayan calendar next year.

Another theory is that the rapid movement of the Magnetic North Pole towards Russia may have affected the birds' innate navigation systems.

When someone is nasty or treats you poorly, don't take it personally. It says nothing about you but a lot about them.

I remember the story of the old man

that he had had a lot of trouble in his life,
most of which had never happened.”

If your wish to end a relationship is not being honored, whatever a toxic person thinks will work best on you will be what they try, so when one angle doesn’t work, they will try another, and another, ramping up their efforts until it seems they might never stop.

An old Cherokee told his grandson: “My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, and resentment, inferiority, lies and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and truth.”

The boy thought about it, and asked, “Grandfather, which wolf wins?”

The old man quietly replied, “The one you feed

Food for thought.

Vultures are vital in the fight against disease. It is incredible the way nature was so finely balanced, and now all being destroyed. We are heading for a manmade, massive disaster.

Vultures are rarely viewed as the poster boys and girls of the natural world. They have repulsive eating habits and are strikingly ugly. Nevertheless, they play a critical role in maintaining the ecological health of many parts of the world. Vultures consume animal carcasses more effectively than any other scavengers and because their digestive juices contain acids that neutralise pathogens such as cholera and rabies they prevent diseases spreading. They act as dead-end hosts for numerous unpleasant ailments. But many ecologists are now warning that vultures across the planet are under serious threat thanks to habitat loss, deliberate and accidental poisoning, and use of the birds’ body parts as traditional medicine cures.

Another amazing fact ! What a thought it is..

Swallows travel 6,000 from South Africa in the Spring. They return to their nest from the previous year and some nests have been in their families for 50yrs.

Look after the little birds, and don't remove your swallow nests, they need our help.

Happy Easter to all those who would wish themselves a Happy Easter.

Is it or isn't it ? No 100% proof either way and maybe there never will be but more evidence continues to show towards the age of the cloth being around 2000 yrs, and the blood group is extremely rare. It is not a painting , it has image on both sides of the cloth . I don't believe anyone will ever admit to this being authentic in any way as it would cause uproar, but the mystery continues.
