Anyone notice a Primera that needed wing mirror glasses replacing.

Mate had both mirror glasses (with backing plates) carefully removed last night in Oxton - suspect it was after 3:30 this morning.

Seems to be quite a lot of parked cars being used as a spares shop recently.

How did they manage to get the mirrors carefully removed? The backing plates need to be unbolted from inside the car think

...are you sure they where not just kicked off by some drunkard going home?

One of my friends needed a new front windscreen for his peugeot 405 many years ago. Him self and a friend who was a mechanic pinched one off a another parked up 405 in the middle of the night. They removed it perfectly causing no damage whatsoever. The next week the story was in the Wirral news!. The bloke who owned the donor car was absolutely gobsmacked!. I know it was common theft but I can't help but laugh picturing the bloke getting in his car in the morning and thinking, something is not right here?. laugh

The backing plate to the glass, not the wing mirror - it seems to have included the arms that go into the position servos.

The mirrors were heated - the spade connectors had been carefully taken off and there were no shards of glass anywhere.

The bodies of the wing mirrors are still on the car.

Funnily enough I was having a chat with Joe about the same thing last night. You are a git when you are young and then suddenly wake to the fact that you had better screw the bobbin or go down.

These were removed far too carefully for it to have been any form of vandalism.

The reason is that replacements are very expensive. Years ago one was stolen from our primera whilst my wife was in a shop, and it cost £180 to replace it. You have to buy the whole unit. Nissan do no see fit to provide only the heated mirror.

I suspect that these thefts would not occur, were the mirror only to be made available a reasonable cost. They are in fact quite easy to replace separate from the complete unit.

I had one of mine (Ford Focus not a Primera) carefully removed not that long ago. I knew it wasn't an accident or vandalism as there was no smashed glass or even the mirror, to be seen anywhere. That was on Oxton Road.

If price was the only factor they would go to a scrappy for one. They are just bad b.....ds who have no intention of paying for anything when they can get some other sucker to shell out. It's only going to get worse because there is no retribution these days.

The mirror and backing plates are available, might not be OEM - the annoying thing is that in this case they are less than £9 each.

Most scrappies don't seem to sell on wing-mirrors, almost all of them offer to sell you new ones.
