Drivers could see a drop in their insurance premiums as a result of plans to make all driving licence records available in an online database. The cost of hiring a car could also drop as a result of the change.

I hope it does no contain an image of yourself?
Then you may as well put passports oneline too.

With the DVLA Track record the one they put up will probably not match the one in your pocket.

Just cancelled my insurance, and changed, it's actually £25 cheaper being truthful, think

Notice the word 'could'...used quite frequently.

It might be a good idea, but can't imagine it will lead to cheaper anything.
Another step in the direction of ID card data, should they ever come to pass.

I highly doubt it'll be a publically accessible database. (Data protection laws being what they are.)

Also, the idea is in line with them scrapping the need to display a tax disc, possibly as soon as this October: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25223631
