As a country we are so obsessed with america we should take up their laws a life for a life, there would be less murders if that happened

but would it? do you think people who murder worry about the consequenses before they do it? They aint going to stop and think oooh I'll get life if I do it and at the moment they stop and think we'll only get a 20 so I'll carry on regardless?

No there wouldn't. The US has a far higher murder rate that the UK. Many of the most violent countries in the world have the death penalty.
