Should have left them all in there to burn! They should be made to fix it and pay for the damage, not the tax payer.

They will end up paying to fix it, open prisons (Ford, Sudbury etc) are the most profitable in the country.
They have contracts with a large number of UK firms and the majority of the inmates work full days, staffing levels are minimal and security is literally non-existant as the inmates there are of a type that need the sentence to be spent as a punishment, but still can be of use to society whilst they are "inside".
You could reduce the jobless totals by moving the work that is done back into the community, however this is usually mind numbing work, long hours, repetitive and at FAR less than minimum wage, so costs will go up.
I'm not defending the riot, it was stupid, pointless, and those involved should (and probably will) be shipped back to closed prisons and face further charges.

They lost a snooker room, pool room and gymnasium. I thought it was a Prison not a holiday camp.

I heard the riot was because the Château le Blanc '68 was at room temperature, and not chilled.

You see, this is how rumours start, bits of information based on a little bit of hearsay..... Château le Blanc '68 SHOULD be served at room temperature thumbsup

They interviewed one of the prison bosses on the news and he said that it should be explained to the prisoners that booze should not be smuggled into the nick and it can't be properly policed as that would cost too much. The mind boggles. That Sheriff Arpaio was in the paper again today he has started womens' chain gangs and told the do gooders to keep their noses out because nick "was not a hotel, like they are in England," His words.

A bit harsh, some of the prisoners who weren't involved assisted in controlling the fires. If it's an open nick then you have to assume that some of the blokes in there are trying to improve themselves it's the bad ones who are trying to improve their finances.
