Four held after car bomb kidnap

Four people have been arrested in Birmingham over the suspected kidnap of a man who was tied up in a car and told he was connected to a bomb.

The man was found in a car filled with gas canisters in Landor Street, Saltley, on Sunday morning.

He told police he was bundled into a car by a group of men as he walked along Wake Green Road in Moseley.

Three men aged 23, 24 and 54, and a 27-year-old woman have been questioned by West Midlands Police and bailed.

They were arrested on Wednesday night and released in the early hours of Thursday after questioning.

Homes evacuated

The man said he was threatened and assaulted by the men before being transferred to the white Nissan Micra which was filled with blue camping-type canisters.

He remained in the car "too frightened to move" before being rescued.

Several homes were evacuated and trains using New Street Station were delayed when a 500m police cordon was set up.

The Nissan car, registration R230 ECX, was sold by its previous owner three weeks earlier and the force wants to know where it was stored afterwards.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have sold a quantity of gas canisters or anyone who saw the car prior to the incident.
