Boy, nine, hit by two cars dies




A nine-year-old boy has died after he was hit on his bicycle by two cars, one of which failed to stop.

Robert James Gaunt, who was hurt on the outskirts of Wrexham on Thursday night, died in hospital on Saturday morning.

North Wales Police said one car apparently collided with Robert, from the Overton area, before he hit another car going the opposite way.

Police are looking for the owner or driver of the first car, a silver or grey Jaguar or Daimler.

Officers are appealing for information about the incident, which happened on the A539 between Erbistock and the outskirts of Wrexham just before 1930 GMT on Thursday.

In a statement, police announced "with great sadness" that Robert died at 1130 GMT on Saturday in Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, as a result of his injuries.

Robert had initially been taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital before
being transferred to Alder Hey.

Earlier, police said the driver of the first car would have known they had been involved in a collision.

The vehicle, which is possibly an XJ8, had "considerable damage".

Officers have examined debris left at the scene, and they have asked anyone to contact police if they noticed the damage.

They also urged any garage or workshops which may have been approached to repair the car to get in touch.

Police have also been examining CCTV footage of the area.

Police said they were "especially appealing to the better nature of the person or persons involved, or anyone who may have information about the owner or driver - be they a partner, friend or relation - to come forward in confidence".

Why would you just drive off...??? The only explanation in my mind is that he or she was over the limit.
