Murder victim found in wood named

A murdered father-of-four whose body was found in woodland has been identified by police.

Rodney Marsh, 36, was discovered dead by walkers near Macclesfield Road, Alderley Edge, Cheshire, on Thursday.

A post-mortem examination confirmed Mr Marsh had died from head injuries he was likely to have sustained during an assault, detectives said.

It was not clear why Mr Marsh, from Golborne, Greater Manchester, had been in Alderley Edge, Cheshire Police said.

'No motive'

"The area where Mr Marsh's body was found is popular with ramblers, dog walkers, horse riders and cyclists," said a spokeswoman.

"Police are currently examining CCTV footage and are keen to identify everyone who was in the area of Macclesfield Road near the Wizard of Edge restaurant on the evening of Wednesday 25 February and the morning of Thursday 26 February."

She said no motive had been established for Mr Marsh's killing.

A black Nissan Skyline, with shiny wheels and a large spoiler, he is understood to have driven to the area was found by police in Finlowe Hill Lane.

When the car was found one of its passenger windows had been smashed.
