THE home of Liverpool FC’s hero goalkeeper Pepe Reina was burgled last night while he played in last night’s Champions League semi-final against Chelsea.

Reina, who saved two out of three of Chelsea’s penalties to take Liverpool to a 4-1 victory, returned home to discover intruders had entered his Woolton home and escaped with paperwork, jewellery, a Bang and Olufsen entertainment system and a grey coloured Porsche Cayenne with Spanish number plates.

Merseyside Police confirmed that the break-in occurred between 7pm and 12.45am today, while Reina was at the match.

They said officers had been called to the home at 1.45am by Reina and that he Porsche has since been recovered on Feltwood Walk at about 6.30 this morning burnt out.

This is not the first time that Merseyside’s footballers have been targeted by thieves who access their empty homes while they are playing matches.

Last December a man who admitted burgling the homes of six professional footballers was locked up for two-and-a-half years.

James Birch, 20, pleaded guilty to breaking into Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek’s house in Wirral, during which his Porsche, jewellery and priceless football memorabilia was taken.

Birch also asked a judge at Liverpool Crown Court to take into consideration seven more burglaries.

The court heard that five of those victims were footballers for Liverpool or Everton.

Everton midfielder Andy van der Meyde was also a victim and his dog was stolen during a break-in at his home.

Blues defender Tony Hibbert also had jewellery and electrical goods worth £70,000 stolen.

Liverpool and England striker Peter Crouch had his Aston Martin, football memorabilia and champagne, worth a total of £200,000 stolen in a burglary.

Danish defender Daniel Agger and former Reds striker Florent Sinama-Pongole had property worth thousands stolen from their homes in Wirral and Cheshire.

Heard about this too.

How gutted would you be!

But what really gets me is, if you had the chance to steal a porsche why on earth would you burn it out afterwards?

Pointless - at least sell it or something lol
Yeah, it would make a decent amount to take to bits and sell on, the alloys alone would be worth a good few hundred.

Weird. But I suppose if they wernt pro burgalars they probably didnt have a clue.
I heard the police arrested Frank Lampard for this...

..... no-one is quite sure of his whereabouts that night raftl
